Zendaya

Wearing: Maison Margiela

Why We Loved It: Zendaya was one of this year’s Met Co-chairs and as someone who never shies away from a red-carpet moment, her peacock-blue, corset dress – designed by John Galliano – was arguably the star of the show. She later sported a 1996 Givenchy piece, also designed by John Galliano.

Jennifer Lopez

Wearing: Schiaparelli

Why We Loved It: Sheer, structured and glitzy were three big trends at this year’s Met and they were also three things J.Lo’s Schiaparelli look completely embodied. Another Met co-chair, she naturally pulled out all the stops, accessorising with a dazzling necklace and earrings.

Tyla

Wearing: Balmain

Why We Loved It: Making her debut at the Met, singer Tyla did not disappoint. Wearing a unique sand sculptured Balmain dress, the figure-hugging number was simple, but made a real statement.

Taylor Russell

Wearing: Loewe

Why We Loved It: This look felt very on brand for rising star Taylor Russell. The shell-like bodice, detailed with flowers, was contrasted by a cascading white skirt and the actress’s signature bob.

Venus Williams

Wearing: Tom Ford

Why We Loved It: Metallics were also everywhere this year, with Venus’s dress nodding to the trend in a modern and elegant way. Her sequined, mirrored dress was simple – but it fitted perfectly.

Gigi Hadid

Wearing: Thom Browne

Why We Loved It: At this point, Gigi is a Met veteran. Wearing a custom Thom Browne gown that reportedly took over 13,500 hours to complete, it featured intricately placed 3D yellow flowers and a striking train. A pop of red lipstick tied the whole thing together.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Wearing: Burberry

Why We Loved It: Jodie’s plunging Burberry gown was made all the more interesting by the sheer train and feather-trim details. Complete with simple accessories and hair, the look felt perfectly balanced.

Phoebe Dynevor

Wearing: Victoria Beckham, jewellery by Bucherer Fine Jewellery

Why We Loved It: Wearing a beautifully constructed sheer dress, Phoebe’s look was all about modern femininity. Going full-on fairy-tale, the soft pink piece was complemented by a simple updo and natural make-up.

Ariana Grande

Wearing: Loewe

Why We Loved It: We’ve missed Ariana Grande on the Met carpet, so we were eagerly waiting to see what the Wicked star would wear this year. Featuring a corseted bodice and flowing skirt, her Loewe dress struck the perfect note.

Mindy Kaling

Wearing: Gaurav Gupta

Why We Loved It: Potentially one of the most impressive looks of the night, Mindy’s dress was designed to resemble blooming flowers. Using sculptural waves of organza, Indian couturier Gaurav Gupta nailed it.

Irina Shayk

Wearing: Swarovski

Why We Loved It: Covered in more than 84,000 Swarovski crystals, this dress really was a jaw dropper. With a simple figure-hugging shape and v-neckline, the silhouette was simple enough to let the crystals shine.

Karlie Kloss

Wearing: Swarovski

Why We Loved It: Fully nailing the brief, Karlie Kloss wore an embellished, floral appliqué dress. Adorned with delicate pink rose petals and a diamond underlayer that stretched across the entire piece, we loved the way the neckline was almost interwoven with the fabric and her body.

Greta Lee

Wearing: Loewe

Why We Loved It: Greta Lee has truly impressed us red carpet after red carpet – it really has been her year. The star entered the Met wearing a feminine, and elegant Loewe gown that perfectly nailed that cool, modern and elegant look she’s become known for.

Kim Kardashian

Wearing: Maison Margiela

Why We Loved It: Highlighting Kim’s incredible figure, this Maison Margiela number feels spot on. We love how the dazzling metallic gown was contrasted by a casual grey bolero wrap.

Kylie Jenner

Wearing: Oscar de la Renta

Why We Loved It: Simple, sculptural and in line with the more minimalist route Kylie has gone down recently, you can’t deny the expert craftsmanship of this Oscar De La Renta Gown. A chic up-do adorned with a simple rose also nodded to the theme.

Kaia Gerber

Wearing: Prada

Why We Loved It: Kaia couldn’t help but draw comparisons to her supermodel mum Cindy in this dress. From the voluminous 70s-style hair to the flawless make-up, it has timeless glamour written all over it.

Chioma Nnadi

Wearing: Burberry

Why We Loved It: As the head of editorial content at British Vogue, it felt almost patriotic for Chioma to wear Burberry. Putting a cool twist on a traditional dress, Chioma wore a laced, tunic-like top with a pair of buttermilk yellow silk trousers.

Vittoria Ceretti

Wearing: Maison Alaïa

Why We Loved It: While plenty of people donned floral motifs to nod to the theme, Italian supermodel Vittoria Ceretti took a different tack. Accessorised with gold, spherical cuffs, this look struck the perfect balance between classic and cool.

Elle Fanning

Wearing: Balmain

Why We Loved It: A dress that looked as though it was sculpted from real glass, Elle Fanning’s sheer Balmain gown looked like a walking work of art. With an almost frosted quality to it, the shoulders featured 3D birds. A softly waved bob and glitzy earrings completed the look.
