9 Of The Best Bronzers For Pale Skin

Finding a bronzer that suits the palest of skin tones sometimes requires a bit of trial and error, but we’ve found out how to get a truly seamless finish and a natural-looking glow. Keep scrolling to discover make-up artist Emma Day’s top tips, as well as SL’s tried and tested bronzing powders for fair complexions…

Find The Right Shade

It might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised how many women are still using a shade of bronzer that’s too dark for their skin tone. If you’re a typical English rose, anything too orange will look muddy and unnatural; instead look to finer, lighter formulas that can easily be built up. The key is to look healthy and sun-kissed – if your colour seems to sit on top of your skin rather than blending in, it’s the wrong shade.

Invest In Your Tools

The right brushes are key when it comes to make-up and even more so when applying bronzer to pale skin. Some bronzer brushes can be quite hard, which are good for blending and stippling, but invest in something larger and softer for a more natural result. Charlotte Tilbury’s Bronzer Brush is a classic, although Real Techniques’ Powder Brush is a great high street version.

Go Lightly

Using your chosen brush, dust your bronzing powder lightly on the temples, cheeks and delicately on the bridge of the nose. There’s no need to go harsh and start contouring – just a wash of colour is all you’ll need if you have fair skin.

Try A Dual-Toned Powder

The beauty shelves are awash with bronzing powders that combine two different shades. While these may look daunting, the right one will produce seamless and natural results as they help to brighten and bronze, as well as add a hint of flush to the cheeks. Unsure where to start? Try Guerlain’s Terracotta Light Bronzer, which has a special shade for fairer blondes and redheads.

Mix It Up

If you do have very pale skin and are wary of looking too orange or overdone, try using a peachy blush with a paler bronzer. This will really help to warm up the skin without making it look unnatural. I love to use the darkest shade of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette with Chanel Les Beige’s Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in N10 or N20.
