Des – Series 1
David Tennant took the lead role ITV’s summer true crime drama, Des, focusing on one of the most infamous criminal cases in UK history. Referred to as the ‘kindly killer’, Dennis Nilsen was a local civil servant who spent five years murdering boys and young men from 1978 to 1983. He would meet and befriend these men before offering food or lodgings for the evening back at his north-London flat. Daniel Mays plays the detective, DCI Peter Jay, who brought Nilsen to justice, with Jason Watkins as writer and Nilsen’s biographer, Brian Masters.
The Singapore Grip – Series 1
The Singapore Grip was adapted from Booker Prize winner JG Farrell’s satirical novel. A drama set during WWII, this is an epic story of a British family living in Singapore in 1941 at the time of the Japanese invasion. Luke Treadaway plays the reluctant hero, while David Morrissey is the ruthless rubber merchant who tries to manipulate his future. Charles Dance also stars as Morrissey’s business partner alongside Jane Horrocks, Colm Meaney, Georgia Blizzard, and Elizabeth Tan, as a beautiful and intriguing Chinese refugee.
Quiz – Series 1
In 2001, the years’ biggest TV scandal wasn’t a whodunnit or murder mystery, but that of the cheating ‘coughing major’. Quiz takes us onto the set of the most notorious episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, where Army major Charles Ingram (Succession’s Matthew McFadyen) won the £1m jackpot. He was later convicted of fraud and jailed after it was discovered that his wife (played by Fleabag’s Sian Clifford) and friend in the audience had been coughing in the background to direct him to the correct answer. A real-life drama that takes audience participation to the extreme.
White House Farm – Series 1
ITV’s six-part factual drama, White House Farm, revolves around one fateful night in August 1985 when five members of the same family were murdered at an Essex farmhouse; Sheila Caffell, her twin six-year-old sons, Daniel and Nicholas, and her parents, Nevill and June Bamber. This 2020 series seeks to provide fresh insight into this family tragedy and the contested accounts of the events that took place at the farm. Freddie Fox plays Jeremy Bamber, with Mark Addy as DS Stan Jones and Stephen Graham as DCI ‘Taff’ Jones. Gemma Whelan, Mark Stanley, Alexa Davies, Cressida Bonas, Alfie Allen, Amanda Burton and Nicholas Farrell also star.
Bancroft – Series 1-2
Sarah Parish is murderous cop detective chief superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft. Revered by colleagues and delivering impressively low crime figures, Bancroft is riding a professional high. Liar – Series 1

Broadchurch – Series 1-3
Broadchurch explores what happens to a small community in Dorset when it suddenly becomes the focus of a police investigation, following the tragic and mysterious death of an eleven-year-old boy under the glare of the media spotlight. Bloodied and dirty, Danny Latimer has been found dead on an idyllic beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face from where he may have fallen. While his death remains unresolved, the picturesque seaside town of Broadchurch is at the heart of a major police investigation and a national media frenzy. Stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman.
Flesh and Blood – Series 1

Hatton Garden – Series 1
The ‘British crime of the decade' was dramatised by ITV last year. Hatton Garden depicts the audacious jewellery, gold and cash burglary at the heart of London’s diamond district executed by an elderly gang of career criminals across the Easter bank holiday weekend in April 2015. Timothy Spall, Kenneth Cranham and Brían F. O’Byrne play leading roles. The four 60-minute episodes tell the story of how the men pulled off the heist which was considered in a class of its own in terms of scale and ambition, and the extraordinary level of planning, preparation and organisation required to penetrate the vault of the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company. Hatton Garden shows how the gang meticulously planned the raid, the tensions amongst the group, the loss of livelihoods suffered by the box holders and the complex police operation that captured the gang.
Vanity Fair – Series 1
Olivia Cooke – star of Steven Spielberg’s film Ready Player One – plays William Makepeace Thackeray’s timeless heroine Becky Sharp. Gwyneth Hughes’ adaptation of the literary classic is set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, and follows Becky as she attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English society. Her story of “villainy, crime, merriment, lovemaking, jilting, laughing, cheating, fighting and dancing”, takes her all the way to the court of King George IV, via the Battle of Waterloo, breaking hearts and losing fortunes as she goes.
