9 Discontinued Beauty Buys & Their Best Replacements

We know how gutting it can be when your go-to product is discontinued. To help you find ‘the one’ all over again, we’ve rounded up nine popular products that have now left us and the replacements worth trying…

RIP: Urban Decay Original Naked Eyeshadow Palette

Eulogy: The beauty community was up in arms when this one departed last year. As one of the best-selling, best-known and most-copied palettes of all time, it was the palette for all your smokey eye needs. Luckily, many brands have had a go at replicating it.

Reincarnation: NYX’s Shadow Palette In Warm Neutrals, £16 is a bit warmer than the original Urban Decay but it does a very similar job. With buttery textures, each of the 16 shades is easy to blend and layer, with satin, metallic and shimmer options all available.

RIP: Jelly Pong Pong Jelly Flush in Cranberry Rum

Eulogy: Rumour has it, Kate Moss use to swear by this blusher, and avid fans still beg for it to make a return today. Dewy and sheer in texture, it gave a rosy glow that was youthful and universally flattering.

Reincarnation: Shiseido’s Minimalist Whipped Powder Blush, £25.60 may not be a like for like, but it still provides a generous dose of colour that’s soft and really blendable. No wonder it’s fast become a staple for many MUAs and beauty bloggers.

RIP: Urban Decay Ink For Eyes Cream Eyeliner in Demolition

Eulogy: This was both a precise liner and easy crème that was really easy to apply, even for eyeliner novices. With serious inkiness and a budge-proof formula, it's easy to see why it was once so popular.

Reincarnation: Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Ink, £20 is one of the best substitutes we’ve come across. Soft, pliable and defining, it has a universally flattering tone and, just like Urban Decay’s original, is easy to build and mix at will.

Available at LookFantastic.com

RIP: Clinique Acne Solutions Body Treatment Spray

Eulogy: This convenient spray had rave reviews for its ability to help clear up back and shoulder acne. Its smell was medicinal and strong, so it felt like it was really getting the job done. Despite its popularity, it was discontinued, causing uproar.

Reincarnation: Mario Badescu AHA Botanical Body Soap, £7.25 is a worth replacement. Claiming to be one of the most innovative bodycare buys on the market, it harnesses fruit enzymes, ginseng and linden to gently exfoliate and buff away dead skin cells. You’ll notice a new smoothness within days.

Available at BeautyBay.com

RIP: Clinique Superlast Cream Lipstick in Nude Bloom

Eulogy: The ultimate nude, Clinique’s Nude Bloom lipstick was universally flattering and provided plenty of pigment without every drying out the lips. Happily, there are now plenty of clever dupes providing a similar finish.

Reincarnation: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Lip Liner in Naturel, £18 is one of the closest matches. While it’s only available as a pencil, you can still scribble it on and blend in the colour with your finger for full impact.

RIP: Benefit Tinted Moisturiser You Rebel

Eulogy: Its silky-smooth formula gave just enough coverage, without ever overloading the skin. Google it and you’ll see fans continue to mourn it today. The slick packaging was pretty cool too.

Reincarnation: Laura Mercier’s newest Tinted Moisturiser, £28 delivers the same dewy results, with enough coverage to replace full-foundation days. Among the variety of tinted moisturisers now available, this one definitely gives skin the same candlelit glow, with skin-loving ingredients to boot.

RIP: Fresh Supernova Mascara

Eulogy: Volumising, thickening and clump-free are just a few of the attributes given to Fresh’s old mascara. Gone but not forgotten, it was a one-stop-shop for all lash needs.

Reincarnation: Dr Hauschka Volume Mascara, £21 delivers similar benefits, really holds a curled lash in place and has a soft formula that never flakes off. The glossy, inky finish is a real win too.

RIP: Suqqu Rich Cream Foundation

Eulogy: Loved by MUAs like Mary Greenwell, this popular foundation was so lightweight, you would forget you had it on. Suqqu has brought out a replacement, but it’s not quite as creamy or flawless as the original.

Reincarnation: Lumene Instant Glow Fresh Skin Tint, £32.90 has an almost identical texture. Loaded with Arctic spring water and Nordic algae, it feels deeply hydrating and has a similar weightless feel to Suqqu’s original. Second skin at its best.

RIP: MAC Eyeshadow in Buckwheat

Eulogy: This loyal shadow was wearable for both day and evening, as it could be built and mixed at will for added drama. MAC fans loved it for the formula's tenacious staying power and creamy texture that never sat into creases or felt cakey.

Reincarnation: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Compact in Twice Baked, £10.50 is almost an exact replica. With a satin finish that applies like a dream, it has warm tones we love and just enough shimmer for extra depth.
