All About Meghan Markle’s Wedding Beauty Look

In the run-up to the royal wedding, beauty editors the world over – SL included – spent hours deliberating the ins and outs of Meghan Markle’s wedding day make-up – and it’s safe to say it didn’t disappoint.

The new Duchess of Sussex opted for her signature natural beauty look of glowing skin (likely boosted by several Sarah Chapman facials, whom Meghan enlisted ahead of the big day) that allowed her freckles to shine through, teamed with bold brows, a smoky eye and a nude pink lip, adding a softness that perfectly complimented her minimalist Givenchy dress. Refreshingly low-maintenance, we gave our full marks to Meghan’s bridal beauty look.

Despite rumours she was going to do her own make-up, Kensington Palace confirmed her look was the work of Dior make-up artist and long-time friend Daniel Martin, while celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant was responsible for her low, loose updo. Normant spilled all the details on creating her messy bun, including exactly how long it took to style: “We had to blow dry [her hair] from wet, I would say 45 minutes to an hour. It’s a messy bun, we call it. Messy in a controlled way.”

Normant said he and Markle communicated quite a bit ahead of the big day and that he took inspiration from Audrey Hepburn. “I always have little 60s inspirations in my head,” he revealed. “But I wanted something very loose and easy.” Meghan then turned to George Northwood, the London hair guru best known for being the master of the ‘undone’ style, for her more relaxed evening look.

Whether you're getting married this summer or feel inspired by Meghan's bridal beauty look, make-up artist Charlotte Cowen says the Duchess's beauty look is an easy one to do yourself. "Many brides ask for their wedding make-up to be very natural, fresh faced and bare; this can still be achieved even with a smokey eye as long as the colours you use are natural and well-blended and your skin is kept fresh and dewy – still showing features of the skin beneath, such as freckles – and the lips are kept nude and subtle. For an added boost, add a few individual fake eyelashes to the outside of your lashes (something that Meghan actually did on her big day), adding a little more definition without going overboard. Many of the brides I work on opt for  this exact look of fresh, natural, dewy skin, brown smokey eyes, very subtle individual lashes and soft natural lips."

While the specifics of Meghan’s wedding day make-up remain under wraps, she’s previously spoken about the following products and we can only imagine they were responsible for Saturday’s radiant glow, rosy lip and full flutter...

DIOR Diorshow Iconic High Definition Lash Curler Mascara, £27

Meghan has admitted this is her "favourite mascara" as she loves the full lash effect it gives. It’s all down to the genius brush which has slanted bristles to capture each and every lash, as well as a unique lifting formula, which stretches and curves the lashes with extreme hold and high definition.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Pressed Powder, £26

Another firm favourite of Meghan's, the bride once said, "It lets your skin look shiny and fresh, but not greasy-shiny." A clever combination of synthetic mica, silica and silicone powders that work together to instantly blur imperfections including pores and fine lines, we can only imagine this powder was a mainstay in Meghan’s make-up look.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Very Victoria, £24

Meghan’s rosy pout was no doubt the magic of Charlotte Tilbury’s cult lipstick, packed with ingredients to give you fuller, softer lips. She’s previously said it’s one of her favourites and the shade worked perfectly with her subtle smoky eye.

Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser, £34

Meghan has often raved about the illuminating and radiance-giving powers of this tinted moisturiser and with its lightweight, sheer and buildable formula that can also be layered with other foundations for a custom blend, it’s a wedding must-have.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Radiant Touch Highlighting Pen, £25.50

Whether it’s covering dark circles or adding radiance to cheekbones, Meghan has long hinted at her love for the iconic Touche Éclat. Just a couple of clicks and a few strategically placed strokes guarantees an immediately rested and radiant complexion.

NARS Blush in Orgasm, £24

The Duchess’s favourite blusher, this cult NARS shade boasts a silky texture and its soft, blendable effect means it’ll flatter any skin tone. A pinky-peach pigment with subtle gold shimmer highlights, we have no doubt this industry bestseller was in Meghan’s kit.
