Amy Lawrenson Shares Her Beauty Dozen

As an established beauty journalist and the former Editorial Director of Byrdie UK, Amy Lawrenson has the enviable task of testing the latest and greatest from the world of beauty. Naturally, she knows what works and where to spend your money. Take note, these are the products that have made it into her personal collection…

For nails…

CND Shellac in Naked Naivete is the perfect pale opaque nude for me. I rarely stray from it.

CND Shellac in Naked Naivete, £15.95

For skin…

When it comes to my skin I have quite an expensive habit. Augustinus Bader The Cream has transformed my complexion from okay to glowing. Created by a scientist who specialises in stem cells, there is so much expertise funnelled into the product.

Augustinus Bader The Cream, £205

For an overnight glow…

Every couple of nights I’ll switch my moisturiser for an exfoliating serum like Sunday Riley Good Genes or Elixseri Opening Act. These both use acids to slough away dead skin to leave my complexion looking even and bright.

Sunday Riley Good Genes, £128 & Elixseri Opening Act, £76

For lips…

I’m hooked on Buxom PowerPlump Lip Balm in Glowing. It has a minty flavour and imparts a sheer wash of colour that lasts surprisingly well for a balm.

 Buxom PowerPlump Lip Balm, £15

For hair styling…

My hair is prone to frizz, so I always keep Philip B. Weightless Conditioning Water on my desk. It revives my style and calms fly-aways without weighing it down.

Weightless Conditioning Water, £38

For colour…

Nicola Clarke at John Frieda is an absolute colour genius. I don’t have time to spend hours in the salon chair, so I go to Nicola once a year and she gives me real-looking highlights that still garner me compliments months later.

For brows…

Right now, I am completely and utterly obsessed with the grooming power of Nude by Nature’s Precision Brow Mascara. The tinted, wax-based formula adds colour and fullness to lacklustre brows.

Nude by Nature Precision Brow Mascara, £24

For a facial...

I recently had a Sunday Riley facial with Iris at Hershesons. Unlike most facials where I see results for maybe a few days, my skin still looked great after ten. Iris used a combination of massage, LED lights and cryotherapy (where the face is misted with seriously cold sub-zero air), along with the Sunday Riley products. I highly recommend it.

For a quick fix...

I usually have about five face mists on my desk at any given moment. I love La Mer The Mist, it’s incredibly hydrating and great for taking on flights too.

La Mer The Mist, £65

For a cut…

I go to Lucy Jones at Larry King; she totally gets that I like my hair to look undone and that I always air-dry it (it’s so important for your hairdresser to know how you style your hair at home, so they can cut it to suit). Lucy is a master at invisible layers and that French-style no fringe-fringe.

For fragrance…

It’s not particularly original but I really do love Le Labo Santal 33, it’s just so addictive. I also love to apply Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Dry Body Oil to skin before misting Pomegranate Noir over the top for nights out.

Le Labo Santal 33, £127, Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, £94, Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Dry Body Oil, £54

For anti-ageing…

I go to Mr Golchin for Botox once a year at the Dr Rita Rakus Clinic. He is a genius and doesn’t overdo it.
