The Everything Facial
Forget an everything shower – in my opinion nothing is quite as spoiling as an everything facial. In fact, my idea of heaven is an evening dedicated solely to the pursuit of sparkling skin, a couple of hours to indulge in an elaborate a ritual of cleanse, tone, moisturise – and then some. Over the last couple of months, I’ve got my everything facial down to a fine art. If your skin is looking a bit wan and wintry and needs a little slow-season TLC, you might want to follow along. To kick things off a good cleanse is, of course, essential. I’ve been loving my old favourite Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse followed by the gorgeous Reome Three Suns Cleansing Balm which is slightly lighter in texture but just as potent. Next, a targeted mask to tackle my irregular hyperpigmentation. I’m persevering with L’Oreal’s Bright Reveal Dark Spot Exfoliant Peel because after using it just twice, I noticed a reduction in darkness. For a proper, much-needed moisture surge I’ve gone back to the excellent Summer Fridays Rich Cushion Cream. If you like something that works hard but doesn’t feel heavy, then I think you’ll love this. It has a whipped texture and is full of soothing ingredients like allantoin and chamomile, as well as big hitting hydrators like squalane and glycerin. Once I’ve cocooned my face in that the only thing left to do is hop into bed to await an altogether fresher complexion come morning. Just before lights out, I apply a generous dollop of Laneige’s latest Pink Lemonade Lip Sleeping Mask and try not to lick it all off before I fall asleep.
Project Me
I’m an advocate of treating myself year-round (any excuse) but I think it’s virtually a necessity during February. If you’re in the market to treat yourself to something really special, it doesn’t get much better than the Augustinus Bader Head to Toe Full Body Treatment at the eye-wateringly cool Skin Lab at The Lanserhof in Mayfair. The treatment is two whole hours of unbridled bliss and it’s highly likely that you’ll emerge feeling genuinely reborn. A combination of pampering products and a well thought out treatment process that side steps any of those annoying long pauses where hands are washed, products are fiddled with, and limbs are juggled. While the body treatment is a brilliant blend of energising and soothing, it’s the facial that stands out. I loved the heavy duty sculpting of my cheekbones and jaw while the mist of activated oxygen that during the LED mask was the highlight. When I say I came out glowing, I really mean it.
Up Your Shower Chic
There can’t be a person in the world who doesn’t hate the sound of their alarm on a grey February day but thankfully, having something nice to use in your morning shower makes getting out of bed a little more bearable. I am a big fan of shower oils which you sprinkle in the shower tray (just be careful not to slip) and love how they mingle with the water to create a haze of scented steam. Aromatherapy Associates Shower Oils are gorgeous, and I can highly recommend the Revive scent if you need extra help waking up, but L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Oil is a little more affordable, pretty unbeatable and as a side note will give you the closest shave imaginable. To ensure you continue the luxe experience even after you’ve stepped out of the shower, make sure you have BAINA’s incredible Sulis Bath Robe gently warming on the towel rail. The soft terry towelling is like being wrapped in a hug but it’s the full-length hem that does it for me. No freezing ankles here, thank you very much.
Sofa So Good
In the spirit of cosiness this month, I plan to spend as much time as possible under a blanket on the sofa. Not just any blanket though, the one I shall be cocooned in is the Higher Dose V4 Sauna Blanket, a proper piece of tech that uses thermal energy and layers of charcoal and clay to encourage full relaxation and boosted circulation and layers of crystal to repair oxidative stress and deliver healthier, more glowing skin. Although clearly the health and beauty benefits are reason enough to splash out, it fits in with my ethos of taking cues from nature at this time of year – namely hibernation and hunkering down.
Seasonal Scenting
Talking of leaning into hibernation season, I’m trying to see the still-dark evenings as a positive in that they encourage me to discover new scented candles to burn. The latest addition to my collection is the divine Jo Malone London Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Scented Candle which smells exactly as it sounds: rich, floral and heady. If I’m really feeling myself, I’ll layer up the scent with another new find from the brand, the Red Hibiscus Cologne Intense. Thanks to its warming, tropical notes of jasmine, ylang ylang, vanilla and of course, red hibiscus, it’s perfect for spritzing on my pyjamas while I search for summer holidays to book.
