The Chicest Dark Red Nail Shades, According To The Pros

Deep, rich red is one of AW25’s hottest colours and a polished nail is one of the easiest ways to tap into the trend. To help you find the best shade for you, we tapped some of our favourite manicurists to see which ones they go back to time and again.

I love this shade because it’s a sultry, moody, deep garnet red. It’s inspired by the gemstone it’s named after. Bio Sculpture’s gel formula gives a really classy finish, making it perfect for autumn and winter when you want something elegant. From Kinetics, ‘Cherry Red’ – rich, with wine-like undertones – feels very grown-up and passionate. Moody but vibrant, it really helps uplift a manicure with a touch of depth and warmth.

Chanel’s ‘Rouge Noir’ is one of my all-time favourites. The colour has that rich, almost blackened tone to it that looks chic in any light and it always feels elegant without trying too hard. It wears beautifully, has a glossy finish and is the perfect shade for this time of year when you want something a bit moodier but still classic. Nails.INC ‘Swear By Salutation’ is a gorgeous deep red that still gives a real pop of colour. It’s dark and bold, but not so dark that it loses that classic richness. The formula is smooth, long-lasting and super glossy, so it always looks fresh. It’s a great choice if you want a darker red that still feels vibrant and eye-catching.

My favourite deep red is ‘Hollyhock’ by Manucurist. It’s a very deep black-red that will complement any winter outfit and look gorgeous with rings and other pieces of jewellery. This glossy finish would look fabulous at a festive dinner party. When it comes to gels, my favourite is ‘Cherry Ripe’ by Kinetics. It’s a rich dark burgundy, a colour that remains popular season upon season.

This ultra-deep cherry black shade delivers a sultry hit of darkness warmed by rich red undertones which suit every skin tone. Created in collaboration with L.A-Space and Bio Sculpture, it’s a luxe, high-shine polish made for chic women who love their nails super dark, bold and impeccably glossy in the winter. Another favourite of mine is ‘Love Potion’, a deep red wine shade which brings the richness of a classic vampy red and pairs seamlessly with a winter capsule wardrobe. The formula delivers exceptional shine and lasts well, making it an elegant choice for the colder months.

'Rouge Noir’ by Chanel is the definition of timeless chic. It has that deep, vampy red tone that looks luxe in any light and works beautifully on every skin tone. I love its smooth, glass finish and how it always feels elegant. It’s the perfect ‘quiet luxury’ red for the colder months. OPI’s ‘Complimentary Wine’ is my go-to when I want a dark red that still feels soft and wearable. The formula is super pigmented, long-lasting and the colour has that rich, mulled wine warmth. It’s flattering on all nail lengths and shapes.

Billie’ is such a classic, elegant choice for the colder months. Nails.INC’s four-in-one formula is brilliant because you get a rich, intense payoff without the fuss of layering multiple products. The wide-hugging brush makes application super smooth and it delivers a gel-like, glossy finish that lasts up to eight days. Another shade to know is ‘Erica’ from Bio Sculpture’s Evo Gel range. It’s a deep, saturated burgundy with a moody, elegant feel. Plus, because it’s a gel, it lasts really well through busy weeks.
