The Brand Favourites

As a plant-based hair stylist, it’s important that brands meet my ethical standards. Color Wow’s products are the best for volume and hold, while Sam McKnight’s are great for that gritty, cool and undone texture. Ouai is best for weightlessness and Byredo is a must-try for the scents. Dyson is my top brand for heated tools and Living Proof makes the holy grail of dry shampoos and texture sprays. VIRTUE is where I go for restorative products and finally, Augustinus Bader makes the best hair oil on the market.

The Damaged Hair Must-Haves

For damaged hair in need of a refresh, my favourite hair mask is the Restorative Mask from VIRTUE. It’s infused with alpha keratin 60ku, which our body recognises as its own and therefore absorbs it better – drawing it in where it’s needed, strand by strand. Some of my other go-tos include the Living Proof Triple Bond Complex and the brand’s Restore shampoo and conditioner too.

The Investment Tools

If you were to invest in one hair tool, make it something from Dyson. The hairdryer transformed my hair – I can never go back. But if you’re after something that does it all, I’d recommend the Airwrap

The Budget Buy

One of my most-asked questions is which drugstore shampoo to try. The answer is always the same – the Arkive All Day Everyday Shampoo. For the price, the ingredients list is seriously impressive. I love how baobab oil gives hair that extra moisture and shine.

The Shine-Enhancer

The fastest way to give your hair a new lease of life is with a salon gloss treatment. Unlike other colour services, a clear gloss won’t impact your colour at all. Instead, it just improves the condition of the surface of your hair, giving you that mirror-like shine.

The Professional Products

Ouai’s Matte Pomade is a really versatile product which is fantastic for mid-week up-dos, styling fringes and taming unruly hairs. Living Proof’s Dry Texture Spray is my favourite texture spray for getting that bombshell drama. Elsewhere, Color Wow’s Raise The Root Is unmatched. I have possibly the flattest hair ever and this gives me at least two inches of volume with minimal effort. I like using it for red carpet looks or event bookings, as well as on brides. The best thing is it lasts.

The Personal Ride-Or-Dies

The VIRTUE Healing Oil is the final step in my self-care routine. I apply one to two drops to my hair and loosely braid it to protect it. I also rate the Sam McKnight Cool Girl Spray, which gives you that effortlessly cool undone texture. I’ve already raved about it but the Dyson Supersonic is responsible for the hair I have today. Prior to 2020, I used a very powerful, salon-professional hairdryer but my hair never grew past a certain length – even with heat protection. So, this has been a game changer. Finally, hair accessories are an easy way to switch things up in seconds.

The Self-Care Heroes

The VIRTUE Restorative Mask is the best for rehabilitating dry, damaged, lifeless hair. Intensely nourishing, it delivers that really conditioned look and also improves flexibility and vitality. You’ll find your hair looks far shinier and feels more resilient after using it. The two-step, exfoliating topical scalp supplement is another go-to when my hair needs a little TLC. Your scalp is an incredibly complex eco-system, and it gets weighed down with dirt, sebum and product – so think of this like a facial for your scalp.
