The week between Christmas and New Year is the perfect time to prioritise a bit of self-care and really look after yourself, says SL beauty contributor Adeola Gboyega. Here, she shares her favourite ways to escape the madness for an hour or two – including the products that help her switch off.

Make Bathtime Luxe

At ths time of year, there’s nothing quite like an indulgent bath. There are so many things you can do to make it a little bit special, including treating yourself to a nice bath oil. The Ren Skincare Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil  will leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and pampered. I also love to use a bath tray, so I can watch my favourite shows on Netflix, have a glass of fizz and light a scented candle.

Give Yourself The Gift Of Glowing Skin

An at-home facial is the perfect way to get your skin party ready. More than your usual quick cleanse and moisturise, follow the same steps you’d expect to see during a professional treatment. Start off with a deep cleanse with a cleansing balm, such as the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and take the time to massage the balm into your skin and enjoy the scent. Facial massage will also promote blood flow and give your skin a beautiful glow. All good facial treatments will include some form of exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and reveal radiant skin. Finish off with a treatment mask and moisturiser.

Put Your Best Foot & Hand Forward

Whenever I have a pedicure and manicure, I instantly feel like a new woman. There is something so satisfying about having your cuticles tidied up and your nails buffed and filed that makes you feel so much better. It’s easy to neglect hands and feet, so treating them to an at-home manicure and pedicure, and finishing off with a luxe nail polish such as the Jimmy Choo Seduction Nail Colour is such a treat. If you don’t have time to give yourself the full treatment, start by adding a nourishing hand and foot cream to your night-time routine or use an intensive mask as a one-off treat.

Scent The Space

When it comes to proper relaxation, the power of scent shouldn’t be underestimated. Not only are candles a great way to create a cosy ambiance, they’re can also lift your mood if you’re feeling a bit down or lethargic. Scents such as cocoa and patchouli are particularly good at promoting relaxation. The Scent By My Elegance candle is perfect for unwinding after a long day. I also love using the Freya + Bailey Snooze Therapy Balm which contains lavender and chamomile, to calm my senses and put me in a restful state of mind just before bed.

Treat Your Hair

Instead of just doing your usual routine, show your hair some love with an extra treatment or two. We forget we should be treating our scalp like the skin on our face, and that it also needs regular exfoliation. Try adding the Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub to your favourite shampoo to detoxify and remove product build up for healthier-looking hair. Finish off with a nourishing hair mask and style your hair to create voluminous curls.
