The Easy-To-Apply Stick

Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick,  £29.50 | Bobbi Brown

Bestsellers for a reason, Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Shadow Sticks have a buttery soft texture that make easy work of a smokey eye. This new Mulberry shade has quickly become our favourite. It has a bronze quality to it but with just enough aubergine to make it a little bit different. There’s a subtle sheen to the texture, which catches the light nicely. Glide it along your lid and blend it out from the lash line upwards for a soft, smokey eye. We recommend using a brush for the smoothest finish.

The Affordable Palette

Bite-Size Eyeshadow, £4 | E.l.f

Neat and compact, this well-curated palette from e.l.f. contains four aubergine and purple shades – a mix of mattes and shimmers – that all work together. The pigments are impressive too, especially given the £4 price tag. With impressive colour payoff, they last for hours, don’t crease and allow you to create a multitude of looks. We love to use a fine-nibbed eyeliner brush in the deepest shade on the far right of this palette. Run this along the lash line for a flash of colour and some subtle definition.

The Trending Mascara

Lash Sensational Sky High Burgundy Haze, £12.99 | Maybelline

Maybelline’s Sky High Mascara went viral when it first launched. With all the same benefits as the original formula, this new aubergine shade thickens and lengthens lashes with a single coat, while the clever, flexible wand picks up even the tiniest of lashes for a fully fanned-out look. As for the colour, it’s more of a ruddy, brown aubergine – flattering and eye-catching.

The Fool-Proof Liquid

Yeux Paint, £33 | Violette Fr

These liquid eyeshadows from make-up artist Violette have been a huge hit. Available in numerous shades – think champagne tones and bright vivid blues – they suit all eye shapes and colours. Swipe it on and blend with your finger or a brush for a speedy, smokey eye. Despite being a liquid, it never settles into fine lines, nor does it leave behind any stickiness. Apply a single layer for something more sheer or build it up gradually for more intensity and depth. It also acts as a great base for any other shadows you want to apply on top.

The Softer Shadow

Solo Shadow, £26 | Merit

If you want to play with an aubergine tone that isn’t too dark, try MERIT’s Solo Shadow in ‘Social’. With lilac and warm aubergine undertones, it’s more muted than others on this list and subtly enhances – as well as brightens – the entire eye area. As for the texture, it’s so creamy and easy to work with. Just swipe a little over your lids and buff it out with a brush or your ring finger. You’ll get a seamless finish either way.

The Playful Liner

Eyefinity All Day Eye Shadow, £6.24 | Max Factor

The clue is in the name: this shade is a chic, warm burgundy that looks really elegant. A liquid liner, it has a tiny amount of shimmer inside which catches the light nicely, while the velvety texture glides onto lids easily. To dip into the burgundy trend, use it to create a feline flick; or for something more discreet, play with the colour by just using a little at the inner and outer corners.
