THE HYPE
Cream blushers are nothing new, but if you’ve seen the hype surrounding Merit’s Flush Balm over the last couple of years, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’d invented the category.
There’s more than one reason it’s garnered quite such a cult following. Although it fits the mould of a classic cream blush, the formula genuinely feels unlike anything else. Housed in a cute, dome-shaped pot, which allows for direct application to your cheeks and anywhere else you want a hit of colour, the balmy formula is waxy without being greasy – and has just enough pigment to impart a flush that genuinely looks like it’s come from within.

THE FORMULA
Available in eight shades, ranging from coral red and dusky pink through to deep raspberry, each is loaded with microfine pigments that impart colour but don’t sit heavily on the skin. The vitamin E means it melts in seamlessly, with just enough dewiness to brighten and lift your whole complexion and, despite looking naturally sheer, the colour stays put for hours. The blushers are also vegan and have been formulated with a celebrity aesthetician Biba de Sousa to ensure they’re suitable for acne-prone skin. While all the shades have an earthy, skin-like tone to keep them looking natural, ‘Beverly Hills’ is a blue-based peachy nude that’s a great shout for all skin tones.

THE BEST WAY TO USE THEM
The great thing about the neat applicator is it’s so intuitive to use. Simply swipe over the apples of your cheeks and lightly blend in with your fingers or a brush. That said, the formula diffuses so well you don’t even need to blend if you’re in a hurry. To create a cohesive, tonal look, use the same shade to add a pop of colour down the bridge of your nose and lightly tap in. Because they’re so creamy, you can use them on your eyelids for a soft wash of colour.
