7 Steps To Bright Eyes

If you’ve scrimped on beauty sleep or spent all day staring at a computer screen, chances are you'll be looking bleary eyed not bright eyed. To help you achieve the latter, here are seven top make-up tips and products to see you through the day.
01

Brighten The Skin

First, prep the eye area using a brightening eye cream. “Choose a formula that firms and illuminates. A pearl or white based cream is a good bet for restoring glow,” says MUA Amanda Clarke. “My all-time favourite is AluminEye Brightening Eye Cream by Alumier.”

02

Conceal Dark Circles

Dark under-eye circles will only exaggerate dull eyes. “Use concealer to mask the darkness, making sure you blend the concealer right into the corners,” advises Amanda. “Serum-style concealers work best for the under-eye area as they add a hit of hydration. My go-tos are Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift.”

03

Avoid Black Eyeliner

“Instead, try gently lining your lashes in rich brown, grey or navy. Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Eye Pencil is a fail safe,” suggests Amanda. “This natural eye make-up look will define the eye shape and create a subtle lift in the outer corners.” Also consider adding a pale peach or white eyeliner to your lower lash line to neutralise redness and make the white of your eye appear whiter.

04

Add A Pop Of Highlighter

Fake the appearance of brightness with a highlighter. “Use a small bristle brush to add a little highlighting powder to the inner corner, plus a small dab on the centre of the bottom lid to create the appearance of light. My favourite powders are Rodial and Chanel.”

05

Curl Your Lashes

“Curling your lashes makes a huge impact,” says Amanda. “It instantly gives a wide-eyed and awake look which helps eyes appear more bright.” After using eyelash curlers, coat your lashes in your favourite curling mascara for an extra volumising boost.

06

Define Your Brows

Defined brows frame your face and lift the whole eye area. “Keep unruly brows at bay with a tinted eyebrow gel,” says Amanda. “Add a pop of natural-hued eye shadow under the brow (choose something a few shades lighter than your brow hair) to create the illusion of a larger eye area.”

07

Invest In Some Eye Drops

If all else fails, some brightening eye drops will give you a helping hand towards that much-coveted sparkle. For an effective two-pronged approach, look for formulas that hydrate the eye while also adding brightness.
