Everything An A-List Make-Up Artist Has In Her Kit

Working with high-profile celebrities like Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran, White Lotus’s Beatrice Grannò and House of the Dragon’s Milly Allock, make-up artist Sara Hill has to be confident that the products in her kit will work for everyone. Here’s what always makes the cut…

SKIN

I take a lot of time prepping the skin, which starts with facial massage and eye masks, and my go-to has always been the 111 Skin Cryo De-Puffing Eye Mask. Unlike some eye masks, they don't leave any residue behind – all of my clients love them. I store them in a little ice bag to keep them extra chilled for quick depuffing. For skincare, I only use products that work fast and suit a range of skin types. That’s why I always have Augustinus Bader’s ‘The Cream’ on hand. The holy grail of moisturisers, I’m always amazed at how many of my clients ask me what I used after a red carpet. It feels like a dream on the skin and it never pills under make-up. For drier skin types, I’ll always team it with the brand’s Face Oil. Non-greasy, it’s perfect for winter skin that needs an extra bit of TLC. I’ll admit it’s pricey, but the La Mer Cleansing Micellar Water is such a treat. I always finish with the Chanel No.1 Revitalising Eye Cream which is lightweight, hydrating and sits perfectly under concealer.

BASE

When it comes to base make-up, it’s all about glow – that’s what I'm known for. The goal is to make the skin look healthy, fresh, clean and never overdone. I want to create the illusion of a no-make-up make-up look which is naturally radiant, so my favourite foundation is the Clé de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation. There were a couple of cult favourites I used for years, but this has changed the game. It ticks every box; the coverage, the pigment, the texture and the way it blends – it’s just magical. I team it with Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer, which is super creamy and not too heavy to settle into wrinkles or fine lines. It also has a great shade range. To set base and concealer, I use Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder. It’s soft, lightweight and has just a touch of colour to it, which makes it great for touch-ups during the evening.

EYES

Sometimes you only have 20 minutes to do a full face of make-up, so having some hardworking products on hand to help you achieve quick but impactful looks is essential. That’s why I love Vieve’s Eye Wands. They go on so easily, blend out perfectly and stay put. I’ll intensify the look with Victoria Beckham’s Satin Kajal Jewel Liners. Everyone raves about them, and they really are the best liners I've ever used. The colour range is incredible too. For mascara, I like the Swede Lashes Lash Lift Mascara. Its brush is perfect for coating each lash – it’s a product I use personally as well as professionally. In my kit, you’ll also always find Viseart’s eyeshadow palettes. Trust me, once you try these, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to use anything else. They’re easy to blend but never crease or fall out, and there are plenty of shade combinations to choose from.

COMPLEXION

The Chanel Les Beiges Cream Bronzer is a cult favourite for a reason – and I’m not quite sure what I’d do if the brand ever discontinued it. I especially love the newest shade – it’s the perfect reddish bronze, and ideal for warming yellow-based skin tones for a super natural and bronzing effect. For blush and highlighter, I have a few Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palettes in my collection. Easy to use, they have great colour payoff and are never cakey.

LIPS

Lisa Eldridge’s True Velvet Lip Colour Lipsticks are so good. She just knows how to make the perfect lipstick. Plus, the shade and texture range is unmatched – transporting you back to a world of old Hollywood glamour. Just like make-up though, the secret to a great lip is the prep, and the Laneige Sleeping Mask is my go-to.

TOOLS

I have accumulated a massive brush collection over the years, but the brand I go back to time and again is Smith Cosmetics. Created by make-up artists for make-up artists, its range just works for every type of look.
