New Beauty Buys To Try This September

New Beauty Buys To Try This September

It wouldn’t be September without a host of new beauty launches. Here, we sort the best from the rest. From a new microblade brow pencil to thickening haircare – and a British candle brand that’s guaranteed to please – this is what we’re loving this month…

Must-Try Make-Up

BECCA Light Gleam Primer & Topper Liquid Eyeshadow, £21

If you’ve wanted to try wet-look lids for some time, check out BECCA’s latest launch. Double-ended, each one houses a primer at one end and a high-shine shimmer on the other. You can wear them solo, but there’s no doubt the base helps the glitter adhere and maintain its pigment. We love Golden Hour for a suits-all tone, but also the way it reflects the light.

NARS Climax Extreme Mascara, £22

NARS’ new mascara is a must-try for anyone seeking full-fat lashes. As the name suggests, it isn’t for the faint-hearted – or those looking for a barely-there effect. Thanks to the ribbed-bristle brush, it latches onto every little lash to provide maximum volume with a latex-like pigment that lasts all day. You may find it quite wet at first, but that soon dries down, with the benefit being its malleability. One of the best mascaras we’ve tried this year.

Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Beauty Base in Pearl, £23

From the line that’s designed to streamline your routine comes this clever base formulated with SPF30. Not only does it prime skin for make-up, it offers visible luminosity that’s both sheer and light-reflecting, while hyaluronic locks in hydration. Great for ‘no make-up’ days, or mixed with your foundation for extra radiance.

iT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Foundation + Skincare, £32

Following in the footsteps of their cult CC cream, this new foundation lives up to the hype. The formula is dewy, yet still offers medium coverage that’s buildable and breathable. You’ll notice your complexion looks more even, refined and fresh, while the addition of aloe vera, vitamins E, B5 and hyaluronic acid lend skin extra hydration, too. Plus, it’s available in 40 shades, so you’re guaranteed to find a perfect match.

Benefit Microfilling Pen, £22.50

Benefit never disappoints on brows, and their latest launch is no exception. Created with three tiny prongs, it’s designed to speed up the process of brow grooming, while keeping arches neat, tidy and well-shaped. Apply it as you would any other brow product, lightly filling in gaps and brushing it through in an upward motion. You’ll find they look fuller, fluffier and more defined – plus, the formula is a little more translucent than most, so you don’t get any grey staining or residue left behind.

Candle Brand Of The Moment

SaintFragrance Candles, £42

Founded by fragrance insiders Sam & Emma Pringle, this London-based candle brand is one of our favourite discoveries. Not only are the candles hand-poured and created with vegan ingredients, the burn time is up to an impressive 50 hours. There are six available, but we love Powdery Skies for its warming, cosy quality.

Body Buys We Love

Girl Smells Deodorant Aluminium-Free, £25.27

We found this niche deodorant brand via wholesale marketplace site Curate Beauty and have been huge fans ever since. Aluminium-free and antibacterial, each one is made with a crisp, fresh scent that belies any stigma surrounding natural formulas. Unlike others on the market, they don’t wear off quickly either, and there’s zero powdery residue left behind. We love the chic packaging, too.

Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Body Scrub, £39

Cult brand Sol de Janeiro have added to their body care line with this heavy-duty scrub. Brimming with sugar and salt, it feels like rubbing sand onto your skin, but in the most satisfying way. Making light work of dead skin cells, dry patches and red bumps, it quickly lends a softening, silky boost, while cupuaçu butters help to firm skin over time. Plus, the signature summer scent is guaranteed to transport you to the nearest beach.

Glow-Giving Skincare

Luneia Radiance Ritual Glow Mask, £40

This radiance-giving mask has created quite the stir in the beauty world. Created with both high-performance and sustainability in mind, the unassuming tube (made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic) has received rave reviews for its ability to boost luminosity, shrink pores and eliminate blackheads – thanks to 10% AHA glycolic acid and 2% BHA salicylic acid. Apply a thin layer over cleansed skin – don’t be alarmed if it tingles a bit – and leave for 15 minutes before removing with warm water. You won’t notice the benefits immediately, but as you up your usage (start with twice a week) you’ll see skin becomes brighter and smoother – we found make-up applied seamlessly afterwards as well.

The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Cleansing Jelly, £38

Jelly cleansers don’t get much better than this. Rich in antioxidants (think vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid and carrot), it targets dull patches while melting away all traces of make-up, dirt and surface grime. It’s incredibly gratifying, too, with a bouncy texture that feels both cooling and gentle. Expensive, but worth it if you like a thorough, non-irritating cleanse.

Erborian Red Pepper Pulp Gel, £45

The first cream we’ve ever tried with red pepper, this gel formula is proven not only to boost elasticity but glow, too. You can literally feel it feeding skin with plumping moisture, while the lightweight formula sinks in fast and never interferes with your other products. Use it as you would a normal moisturiser – a little goes a long way, so you'll get your money’s worth.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Energising Marine Cleanser, £42

You can always rely on Elemis’ Pro-Collagen line and their latest Marine Cleanser has already become a firm favourite. With a mixture of anti-ageing acids, it has just the right amount of exfoliating power to get rid of surface dirt and deep clean your pores and blackheads, too. The gel texture makes for a soothing cleanse, while a new ingredient, Padina Pavonica, locks in hydration long after you’ve washed it off.

Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream, £55.50

Fans of the original will be pleased to hear Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream has had an update. Now available with three new ingredients, this hard-working formula is a must-try for those concerned with skin ageing. It includes vitamin A to gently exfoliate, in turn, reducing fine lines, and proxylane, which is known to improve firmness and elasticity. Finally, chaga mushroom helps keep sallowness and dullness at bay – 96% of testers said their skin was not only plumper, but smoother in texture, too.

Haircare Essentials

Dr. Hauschka Hair Tonic, £18

Hair tonics are big business right now. Not only do they stimulate circulation and growth, they get rid of product build-up for a healthier, cleaner scalp. Cue Dr. Hauschka’s latest drop, which comes with an easy-to-use pump spray so you never have the faff of rinsing post-use. Oil-free, it’s not tacky or thick and uses strengthening neem leaf, dog nettle and birch bark to rebalance sebum production. Focus application directly on the roots and scalp for best results, and use it twice or three times a week, depending on your needs.

Philip Kingsley Elasti-Styler, £34

Very few hair products have amassed quite as much praise as Philip Kingsley’s cult Elasticizer, and now, they’ve expanded the line with a new 5-in-1 formula. Use a small amount on damp or dry hair to strengthen, condition, prime, add shine and smooth frizz. We like to scrunch a little throughout our strands for extra texture and wave, too. Whichever way you use it, we guarantee it will improve manageability and sleekness without ever leaving a sticky residue behind.

Fragrance To Have On Your Radar

Van Cleef & Arpels Oud Blanc, £130

This new Van Cleef fragrance is a real winner. Full of rose, vanilla and frankincense, it’s unlike anything we’ve ever tried before. Powdery, but with a musk dry down, it’s subtly sweet with just enough smoke to create a diverse and warm scent ideal for autumn.
