What’s In This Make-Up Artist’s Beauty Bag

Saskia Wright cut her teeth as Charlotte Tilbury’s personal make-up artist for years. Now a specialist in both bridal and red-carpet make-up, who better to show us what she keeps in her day-to-day kit? These are her ride or dies…

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

Medium Travel Bag, £26 | Space NK

I like to be able to see everything in my make-up bag straight away – it’s so frustrating to be rummaging around. These are super sturdy and come in four different sizes. I use them for myself but also to house my professional make-up kit. If they ever get squashed or misshapen, simply give them a blast with the hairdryer to mould them back into shape.

The Dewy Skin Cream, £63 | Tatcha

I’m going through a real Tatcha phase and can’t get enough of the brand’s Dewy Skin Cream. It is the most hydrating cream and genuinely makes my skin feel so much smoother and more lifted.

Available at SpaceNK.com

UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 Tinted Facial Sunscreen, £29.79 | EltaMD

This purchase was inspired by Hailey Bieber, but I’m so glad I picked it up. It contains a decent dose of sun protection, and the tint is really pretty and natural. It suits so many skin tones – deeper skin tones should try the original untinted version, which gives off zero white cast.

Lip Sleeping Mask, £15.20 (was £19) | Laneige

At this time of year, an ultra-nourishing lip mask is just what my lips need and this one is my all-time favourite. I use it on all my clients at the beginning of a make-up session and by the end, no matter how chapped they were to start with, the lips are silky smooth, plump and hydrated – ready for lipstick.

Available at BeautyBay.com

Beauté Pore Refining Mattifying Veil, £55 | Clé de Peau

This is the best primer I’ve used on combination/oily skin types. It smooths and blurs the skin without tightening or drying it out. I tend to only put this on where needed – for example in the T-zone. It also prevents creasing and gives your make-up a smooth canvas to lie on top of.

Hollywood Flawless Filter, £39 | Charlotte Tilbury

I can safely say this is a product that will never leave my personal or professional make-up kit. It’s truly unique – no matter how many brands try to replicate it, it’s unmatched. Use it under foundation for an extra glow or on its own just with concealer on natural days. Simply apply it to the highest points of the face and blend  – just steer clear of areas where you’d usually powder, e.g. around the nostrils or between your eyebrows.

Sublime Perfection Foundation, £60 | Pat McGrath Labs

I’m not being dramatic when I say this foundation has earnt a permanent place in my kit. It’s incredible and yet I’m surprised so many people claim not to know about it. It has a soft silk sheen that livens up even the dullest of complexions. Plus it’ll last all day, and most importantly the shade range is one of the best on the market.

Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer, £26 | Charlotte Tilbury

Long wearing, smoothing and with an almost elastic feel, this concealer makes the area under your eyes feel so lifted and awake. I worked on it with the team at Charlotte Tilbury for a year and a half; I genuinely think the formulation is one of the best out there.

Cheeky Posh Cream Blush Stick, £35 | Victoria Beckham Beauty

Blusher is my favourite part of doing make-up – I always see it as a challenge when a client says blusher isn't for them. One of my go-to blushers is this one from Victoria Beckham Beauty. It’s so easy to blend and the shade ‘Major’ is my top pick. If you like your blush to be a little dewier, the REFY cream blushers are beautiful. You can use a brush or your fingers to blend them out. I like to keep one in my bag to double up as a pretty lip tint.

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, £22 | Rare Beauty

These went viral a little while ago – but for good reason. They are so easy to use, and I love the shade ‘Joy’. You really only need the tiniest bit to make an impact and you can also take a bit of it onto the eyelids.

Available at SpaceNK.com

Cream Bronzer, £18 | Refy

The REFY cream bronzer is also amazing – super easy to use, I find it works best with a large fluffy brush. You can even apply this underneath your foundation or skin tint for a subtle bit of pre-base bronzing.

Available at Sephora.com

Hollywood Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter, £38 | Charlotte Tilbury

I’ve tested a lot of different contouring products over the years and I still find Tom Ford’s is the best for creating a true shadow on fair to tan skin tones. For highlighter, I love using the Charlotte Tilbury Face Architect highlighter on the inner corners of the eyes, tip of the nose and a touch on the cheekbones. I’ve also used it as an eyeshadow to add a subtle, brightening sheen.

1.5mm Mechanical Gel Liner, £18 | Hourglass

Testing so many products led to me developing dermatitis on my eyelids the moment anything slightly shimmery goes on them, so I tend to stick to liner and mascara. This one in the shade ‘Canyon’ is great because it’s super thin, smooth to apply, lasts all day, and you never have to sharpen it.

Glam Palette, £64 | Natasha Denona

Natasha Denona makes the best eyeshadow palettes. The texture, blendability, longevity and colours are superb. They make a great gift too.

Available at LookFantastic.com

Relevee Lash Curler, £32 | Surratt Beauty

Depending on your bone structure, some lash curlers may not work for you. If you find you can never get the lash curler right into the root of your lash without leaving a large dent in your cheekbone, these are the ones to try. They lay much flatter than any other lash curler so it means you can use them on different eye shapes.

Available at LibertyLondon.com

Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara, £19 | Rare Beauty

I’m stunned by this mascara. It’s new to me, but has quickly become a staple. My eye shape means I almost always suffer with a slight panda eye at the end of the night, but not with this. It gives gorgeous length and has bulletproof staying power – but you also don’t have to scrub your eyes at the end of the night to get it off.

Available at SpaceNK.com

Beauty Shine On Milky Lip Jelly, £18 | Tower 28

Lately I can’t stop using this Tower 28 gloss in ‘Coconut’. It’s so pretty and fresh, and the formula is super hydrating. Unlike most lip glosses, it never feels sticky either. When it comes to lipsticks, I’ve used this Dior lipstick (shade 418) on so many brides. I feel it’s due a TikTok moment – it’s that good.
