My Little Black Book Of Beauty: Lune Martens

My Little Black Book Of Beauty: Lune Martens

The founder of skincare brand Monday Muse, Lune Martens knows more than most when it comes to beauty – which is why we asked her to open up her little black book. From treatments and products to the salons worth having on your radar, here are the names and places she relies on time and again.

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

For Go-To Treatments…

LED light therapy is one of the best treatments I’ve ever tried – even if it is a bit fussy. Whenever I get it done, I can see the improvement in my complexion immediately. Depending on the type of light administered, it can help with inflammation like acne, scarring, sun damage and so on. It was actually originally developed by Nasa for plant growth experiments in space, but it turned out to be an effective skin treatment. My favourite place to go is Pfeffer Sal. I also like microdermabrasion, which uses fine crystals to remove dead skin cells.

For Neat Nails…

One of my worst habits is biting my nails, especially when I’m stressed, so getting my nails done helps me cut down on the habit. I’m not particularly loyal to one salon – I tend to pop into the nearest one when I am out and about – and there are so many great places in London, but DryBy is great.

For Hair Cuts & Colour…

My go-to hairdresser is Bert Visser, who I visit at the Conservatorium hotel when I’m in Amsterdam. He’s an amazing colourist and has done my hair for years. I’ll either get highlights or lowlights depending on the season and my mood. I had blonde hair for years, but recently went back to my natural colour which is a light brown – the pandemic has inspired me to return to my roots!

Repeat Buys…

I am never without my Dr. PawPaw multipurpose balm. It’s a real staple. Not only does it keep my lips hydrated, you can also use it on drier areas of your body, like knees and elbows.

For Healthy Hair…

When we went into lockdown, my scalp became really flaky and itchy. It was probably stress-related, but I decided to switch things up and pay more attention to my hair health. I found massaging in a scalp oil a few times a week as a pre-wash treatment really helped, as did using gentle haircare. My go-to buys are now the Hydrating collection from Rahua, which cleanses thoroughly, but without any irritation.

For Good Skin…

My complexion loves the Monday Muse Juice & Nectar combination. The hydrating, strengthening and clarifying elements of The Juice and Daily Serum keeps my acne-prone skin in check, while the Nectar Vitamin Facial Oil helps to lock in moisture for a plumper, healthier-looking glow. I wish more people used face oils – they’re so underrated because everyone is afraid they’ll clog up the pores. But so long as you’re using plant oils, they won’t cause breakouts. They’re one of the best ways to maintain hydration levels and improve skin elasticity, which is something we all want.

For Fluffy Brows…

I love a good fluffed-up brow, so I don’t trim them too much – I tend to leave them to do their own thing. If you ask me, natural looking is always best. The only product I use is Glossier’s Boy Brow to brush the hairs up and hold them into place – it really is a hero product.

For A Healthy Mindset…

I’ve recently got into Pilates-inspired workouts. I enjoy the Melissa Wood Health exercises as she does a variety of short and long workouts, so even if I don’t have much time or I don’t feel like it, a 15 or 20-minute session is enough to shift my mindset. It doesn’t just help your body become leaner; it also lifts your entire mood. I love it.

For Unwinding…

I love having regular baths when it’s a bit colder outside and always use bath salts or magnesium flakes. Magnesium is an essential mineral that helps with muscle tension, as well as relaxing the body, so for me baths are an essential way to unwind after a long day. The Magnesium Soak from Nature of Things is my favourite.

My Signature Scent…

Byredo Blanche is my favourite fragrance of all time. The scent is reminiscent of clean laundry, so it’s ideal for every day. I also recently discovered the roll-on oil perfume from Aime which is incredible. It has a warm, almond top note, but it’s slightly woody at the same time – perfect for the colder months.

For Beauty Shopping…

For online beauty shopping, it’s always Cult Beauty for me. I really trust its edit and it’s a great place to discover up-and-coming indie brands. If I want to have a proper in-store experience, then it has to be Liberty. A lot of effort goes into the display, the service is great and the whole place feels so authentic – not to mention quintessentially ‘London’.

For Good Glow…

It’s a recent discovery, but I’m obsessed with Chanel’s Water-Fresh Skin Tint. It gives your complexion such a natural glow, but never looks like you are actually wearing make-up – it’s totally up my street. If you want to add a natural sun-kissed touch, try Rose Inc’s Cream Blush in Heliotrope, the satin texture has made it my new go-to.

The Beauty Advice Everyone Should Know…

Wash your face daily, but with cooler or tepid water. If it’s too hot, it will strip the skin of too many of its natural oils. I used to wash my face in the shower but since I’ve been more careful about the water temperature, I’ve really noticed a difference to my complexion. Try it – you’ll soon see what I mean.
