AM:

When I wake up in the morning, I scrape my tongue, then drink about 750ml of tepid water as it’s better for you than cold, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic practices. Then, I revive my face with rosewater, although at the moment I’m enjoying orange blossom water, which I keep in the fridge. The one I’m using right now is by Belgian pharmacy brand Pranarôm which I first came across while in France when a chic older French woman recommended it to me. Next, I meditate for ten minutes while wearing my CurrentBody LED Mask – the Series 2 version is amazing, especially if you experience jawline breakouts.

Then I jump in the shower and wash my body with Santa Maria Novella’s Melograno gel, which has the most beautiful pomegranate scent. I’m quite a spiritual person and the pomegranate symbolises fertility and new beginnings, which feels like a good way to start my day. Canadian bodycare brand Sidia is so underrated and does a really good exfoliating body wash. As a woman of colour, moisturising my body is a non-negotiable. I’ve recently been loving the Commune Hand Cream; I’m not really a hand cream person but this comes in such a big bottle that I can get away with using it all over. It leaves your skin feeling ultra-soft.

I don’t always cleanse my skin in the morning. When I do, I like something that gently foams. A few I use on rotation are Dr Idriss Soft Wash, CeraVe Balancing Air Foam Facial Cleanser and Rhode Pineapple Refresh. I have quite hardy, resilient skin – nothing really fazes it. I’m a serum fanatic and I find Skinceuticals’ CE Ferulic is the best vitamin C out there. My current moisturiser go-to is Innbeauty Project Extreme Cream, it sits really seamlessly under make-up and the quality of the formula feels as though it could be triple the price. Your skin feels nurtured but in a non-greasy way. Another favourite is The Inkey List’s Water Cream, that’s what I’d reach for if I’m under lights all day. It’s hydrating but not too rich.

PM:

I have to shower in the evening, particularly if I’ve been around people. I’m very into the idea of letting the water wash away the energy of the day. In the evening, I reach for body products that smell sweet and nurturing, like Lush Sticky Dates, otherwise I’ll use shower gels I’ve brought back from French supermarkets. Afterwards, I apply either a nourishing oil or a very rich cream, or even sometimes both. I’m quite partial to a ‘marinade’, which for me involves layering oil and cream, then putting on my dressing gown and cocooning myself. I’m a huge fan of the brand Wildsmith – the scents are so soothing and the oils are lovely and nourishing. Another favourite is Agent Nateur’s Body Balm. The consistency is thicker than an oil, but it’s the silkiest, sexy body product you’ll ever use.

I always cleanse after the shower, usually with a balm or milk. At the moment, I’m using the Skin Rocks Cream Cleanser but one balm I really rate is by Muihood. Double cleansing is a must for me, I’ve done it since I was about 12 as I grew up on Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish! These days, for my second cleanse I’ll often use a gel formula, such as the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex. Acid-wise, I’ve got about one use left of the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 PIGM 400 which is fantastic and such a classic. But a more recent discovery for me is Medicube’s Zero Pore Pads 2.0. I’ve noticed such a difference in my skin. The combination of AHA and BHA is really effective. I don’t experience breakouts that often but this makes them even less frequent. My trusty serum – one I won’t travel without – is Reome’s Active Recovery Broth. It’s so good for boosting hydration. Another I like is The Inkey List Exosome Hydro-Glow Complex. If I’m doing vitamin A, I want the strong stuff, so, depending on the time of year, I’ll use tretinoin by Obagi. Finally, I seal everything in with a creamy, comforting moisturiser. One I can’t get enough of is the La Mer Moisturising Soft Cream – not to be confused with its OG Moisturising Cream. This has such a beautiful, whipped texture and leaves your skin feeling cushiony-soft.
