The Sustainable Beauty Brands To Have On Your Radar
TATA HARPER
Why We Rate It: The undisputed 'Queen of Green', Tata Harper is widely credited for sustainability and pioneering the growing farm-to-face obsession. Her skincare range has won over countless beauty editors (and won countless awards, to boot) as it really does deliver on results – because, as Harper herself says, you shouldn’t have to choose between natural ingredients and high performance. Everything in the line-up is as pared back as can be, using luxurious oils, nutrient-rich plants and herbs that stimulate your skin and plump it up with visible hydration. Look out for Crème Riche – a satisfyingly unguent moisturiser that nourishes at speed – and their Nourishing Oil Cleanser which is brimming with multivitamins to break down make-up without ever stripping your complexion of its natural moisture. Their new blushers are well worth having on your radar, too.
Eco Credentials: Vegan and cruelty-free; sustainable glass packaging; 100% natural and organic ingredients from sustainable sources; free from GMO, toxins, fillers, artificial colours and fragrances, and all synthetic chemicals.

ABEL FRAGRANCES
Why We Rate It: Sustainable fragrance brands don’t get much better than this. Made from plant-derived ingredients, each perfume is formulated as naturally as possible. Founded in Amsterdam by New Zealander Frances Shoemack and São Paulo-based master perfumer Isaac Sinclair, the scents are designed to work with your body temperature and chemistry for a fragrance that’s unique to you. Despite their eco-credentials, they linger on the skin for hours. Our favourite is ‘Green Cedar’ which is brimming with crisp, earthy undertones married with sweet Moroccan cedar for a warm and unisex scent.
Eco Credentials: All Abel fragrances are made using 100% (plant-derived ingredients), while the packaging is 100% recyclable using FSC paper, vegetable dies and inks. Likewise, all caps are bakelite, not plastic, and 80% of the brand’s online orders are carbon neutral.

ONE OCEAN BEAUTY
Why We Rate It: This clever line is powered by what’s known as ‘blue biotech’, a lab-controlled process that generates the powers of marine microorganisms to boost cell turnover and maintain the skin’s health long-term. It sounds in-depth, but this is actually a sustainable way to capitalise on the ocean’s youth-boosting benefits, without any large-scale harvesting and without threatening sea life. The Revitalising Sea Serum is a bestseller, but we love the thick, cosseting creams as well, which give skin a noticeably firmer and refined surface within weeks.
Eco Credentials: All products in the line are sustainably produced, while the packaging is entirely recyclable. The formulas mimic the benefits of marine microorganisms as sustainably as possible, but if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also donated $250,000 to Oceana, an organisation which safeguards the oceans while working with governments to affect policy change.

SPECTACLE SKINCARE
Why We Rate It: This brand has a legion of devoted fans – including some of the UK’s leading cosmetic doctors and celebrity facialists, too – and for good reason. With just one product in the range, founder Andre Condit and beauty editor, Olivia Falcon, wanted to produce a single does-it-all cream to cover all the bases. Cue Performance Crème which has been dubbed ‘the must-have moisturiser’. Multi-tasking, it works to hydrate and smooth skin with an unbeatable primer-like consistency that preps your complexion for any make-up that follows. The gel formula is seriously thirst-quenching, while the skin-identical ingredients – think squalane, amino acids and peptides –work to reinforce your barrier for plumper, healthier-looking skin. It protects against environmental stressors, too, including UV rays and pollution. In short, there’s little it doesn’t do.
Eco Credentials: Combining minimal plastic with pared back packaging, the brand also pledges to do better for the environment. What’s more, Spectacle Skincare plants two hemp seeds for every box created – with the boxes also made from hemp to ensure trees are unharmed. Finally, everything is recyclable, including the airless pump and sugarcane tube – making it a purchase you can truly feel good about.
