Launched in 2003, Susanne Kaufmann wanted to embrace natural skincare and sustainable production methods, while also maintaining a luxury feel. Since then, the brand has gone on to have huge success, with a range of products that continues to earn rave reviews and sell out overnight. The formulas are silky and hydrating, and all deliver impressive results. Founder, Susanne Kaufmann explains more: “I grew up in the Austrian alpine region of the Bregenzerwald and was immersed in an understanding of the local traditions and the beauty and wellness benefits on offer from the plants that grew there. This served as my inspiration for the brand. We also take a holistic approach, which places prevention as the focal point of all our skincare lines. It was important to me to develop products that support the skin on the face and body, as well as cater to a range of skin types and the different lifestyles our customers lead. We’re also inclusive and diverse, so everyone can reap the benefits of our products.”
The Sustainable Credits
There are brands that say they are sustainable, then there’s Susanne Kaufmann – they really do go the extra mile. From their work with local suppliers in Austria and Germany to the recyclable packaging and clever initiatives that cut down on transportation emissions, they’ve always been ahead of the sustainability curve. What’s more, their production house (in operation for 17 years) runs completely on solar, thermal and green electricity sources. Susanne adds: “Since the brand’s conception I made the decision to offer most of our products in recyclable glass bottles. But sustainability is ever evolving, and we’re keen to keep up with it. I’m often asked how we manage to tick all these boxes while keeping that element of luxury and the answer is simple: new research and scientific developments which open the door to new options all the time. We’re committed to implementing the best methods for our products and services.”
The Ingredients That Yield Results
All ingredients in the Susanne Kaufmann range are sourced as locally as possible. Susanne says: “The combination of active ingredients we use are scientifically proven to be effective and safe – we’ve chosen them for their efficacy and then tailored them to suit the skin’s needs. We combine our expertise in natural ingredients and skincare philosophy with our values for innovation and sustainable living, which we share with our customers globally. We harness the power of plants and the natural actives they provide, then create the best formulas to achieve better and healthier-looking skin.”
The Products To Try
The brand’s iconic Oil Bath for The Senses has long been a fan favourite for its calming, lavender, ylang-ylang and patchouli scent. On top of that, we can’t recommend the Cleansing Milk enough for gentle, but thorough make-up removal. Susanne’s favourites? “It’s hard for me to choose, but right now, it would have to be the Hyaluron Serum Moisturising and the Cleansing Gel. After using the latter to cleanse, I apply our Hyaluron Serum Moisturising which supports the skin cells in retaining moisture for an extra boost of hydration. I always finish with a layer of our Eye Cream Line A under the delicate eye area, and often, I’ll apply it in a thicker layer as an overnight mask.” You’ll now find a selection of products in the range are refillable, including the Cleansing Gel, Hand Soap and Shower/Shampoo. This new scheme has been designed to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint by at least 69%. “We know our customers love our recyclable glass bottles, so we’re excited to offer a refill solution that allows them to reuse them, while reducing their carbon footprint and helping us in the fight to protect the planet.”
