The New-Season Beauty Swaps To Make Now

The start of September heralds many things – including Georgia Day’s seasonal beauty switch up. Here, the SL contributor talks us through everything she’s loving for autumn, from skin tints and scent diffusers to sustainable brands and beyond.

New Make-Up Moments

There have been so many incredible make-up launches of late that it’s hard to narrow everything down to my latest non-negotiables. Let’s start at the beginning, which in this case is base. Two excellent medium-coverage foundations I’ve tried lately are Rose Inc’s Softlight Skin-Smoothing Liquid Foundation and Glossier’s Stretch Fluid Foundation. Both have a finish that looks like a more even toned, polished version of my own skin – which is all I ever want. Special mention also goes to the Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint and its silky demi coverage for those days when I want a little less, and to the NARS Light Reflecting Eye Brightener which has been a game-changer for waking up my complexion. Merit’s Solo Shadows are a creamy dream for lids that just need a little something. There are great neutrals, but I love ‘Social, a putty-coloured mauve that adds definition to the socket line. To keep my glow going into autumn, I’ve been reaching for the Vieve Modern Radiance Bronzer (creamy, buildable and shade perfection is all you need to know) and Ateh Beauty’s Blush of Dreams in ‘Love Plum Plum. And finally, it wouldn’t be a new season without a new lipstick to pull everything together and I’ve fallen for Chanel’s Rouge Coco Bloom Lip Colour in ‘Sweetness. A deep nude that looks so sophisticated on, it helps to segue my look from sunny to sultry as the days get darker.

Bring On Bath Time

I get excited when it begins to cool down because I can indulge my love of baths once more. The Firewall Blend Aromatherapy Bath & Shower Oil from Beauty Pie and Kathy Phillips went straight in the tub as soon as it arrived. It’s a blend of frankincense, eucalyptus and niaouli (from the myrtle family) and is so suited to the misty cool of autumn evening baths. Summer and all its shorter hemlines got me into a good bodily maintenance routine but I’m not sure I’ll continue with quite such relish once the jeans are properly back on. That’s why I’ve been loving Formulae Prescott’s Tri-Body Treatment because it cleanses, polishes and conditions all at once with no hassle. I apply it before I step into the bath and let the multitasking magic happen. I’m such a sucker for anything with a herbal scent to it, so it’s no surprise that my latest find is the Body Oil from the much-anticipated collaboration between Susanne Kaufmann and Byredo, which is inspired by the deep green aroma of the Austrian Alps where Susanne is from. It’s deeply calming and makes light work of post-bath dry skin.

Seasonal Scent Switches

As far as I’m concerned, cosy season began on 1st September, which means it’s time to switch from my summertime set-up to something more fitting for autumn. Admittedly it doesn’t take much for me to fall in love with a scented candle, but Diptyque’s new Les Mondes de Diptyque are genuine works of art. Comprising five luscious fragrances, the candles are the first refillable options for the brand and are housed in tiered oval glasses in a set of striking muted shades. I like Temples des Mousses which is woody and fresh with notes of matcha and is inspired by a zen garden in Kyoto. I’m a long-time fan of diffusers as they’re so good at throwing (read: diffusing) scent in larger spaces like hallways and living rooms. For autumn my chosen fragrance is Carrière Frères’ Sandalwood Diffuser which is grounding and soothing – the ideal olfactory backdrop to cosy nights in. If you’re not familiar with the brand, I urge you to take a look. It makes gorgeous interior fragrances that are unusual but alluring, and there are lots on my current wish list including these beautiful Botanical Palets for scenting the winter knits in your wardrobe. And finally, when it comes to scenting myself, Aesop’s Ouranon EDP has my vote. Full of resinous woods, frankincense and myrrh, it’s elegant, earthy and luminous all at the same time.

Post-Summer Skincare

I’m always trying to improve the sustainability of my beauty routine and have been impressed by the diligence and dedication of My Skin Feels, which formulates its line using waste products from the food industry. Whether it’s leftover water from the production of orange juice or unused organic oats from breakfast cereals, its range is carefully and mindfully crafted – the My Skin Feels Clean face wash is a zingy cleanser that removes make-up, dirt and grime and wakes up skin fast. A summer of sun has left its mark with increased pigmentation and dullness. To defend against any further damage, I’ve recently added Sarah Chapman’s Digital Shield to my daily line-up. It energises skin and protects against urban and digital pollutants – and like every product in the range, the texture and scent are sublime. It’s also delivered noticeable refinement and radiance in my skin. Finally, for days when everything just looks a bit bleurgh (aka stressed and sensitised), it’s Summer Fridays’ Rich Cushion Cream to the rescue. It helps support skin’s natural barrier so restores plumpness and vitality. When applied before bed after my serum, my thirsty skin just drinks it in.
