Period. End of Sentence, Netflix

Period. End of Sentence is a documentary about the stigma surrounding menstruation in Northern India, where the lack of sanitary products and menstrual education mean millions of girls end up missing school – or worse, dropping out entirely – once they start their period. The 26-minute film documents a group of women who use a machine to make low-cost sanitary pads in a modest village in the Hapur district, as an attempt to improve women’s access to feminine hygiene products, in turn empowering women and pushing for a revolution in the area.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, Netflix

Against all the odds, a 13-year-old boy (played by Maxwell Simba) in Malawi invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine. Based on the bestselling book and true story of William Kamkwamba, this Netflix-only hit is directed by and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behaviour as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined. When a pizza delivery driver is shot down in south London, Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie (Carey Mulligan) is left in charge of the investigation and refuses to accept the murder as just a random act of violence. As she investigates, she soon finds herself being drawn into the darker side of underworld London. At the same time, politician David Mars (John Simm) becomes embroiled in the events due to his rocky relationship with his unpredictable ex, Karen (Billie Piper), and a vicar (Nicola Walker) struggles to conceal her affair with the only witness to the shooting.

Queer Eye – Series 3, Netflix

It’s series three and Bobby, JVN, Karamo, Antoni and Tan are headed to Kansas City, Missouri. This season is set to see some Queer Eye firsts, from the team’s first duo to the first lesbian the Fab Five has worked with. We’re already stocking up on tissues.

The OA – Series 2, Netflix

From Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the visionary filmmakers behind Sound of My Voice and The East, comes the second series of this powerful, mind-bending tale about identity, human connection and the borders between life and death. Details are being kept very much under wraps (and the trailer doesn’t give must away either), but we’re expecting more slick sci-fi action with a feminist lean.

Jane The Virgin – Series 5, Netflix

This US comedy-drama television series follows Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose vow to save her virginity until marriage is shattered when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a check-up. This series will be the last ever (sob), but will hopefully answer the question we all want answering: who’s the narrator?

Santa Clarita Diet – Series 3, Netflix

Joel (Timothy Olyphan) and Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) are everyday suburban agents. But the couple face a series of obstacles when Sheila has a physical transformation into a zombie and starts craving human flesh. With Joel and the family trying to help Sheila through the trying time, they must continue to deal with neighbours, cultural norms and getting to the bottom of a potentially mythological mystery.

Hanna – Series 1, Amazon Video

A young girl (Esme Creed-Miles) with extraordinary skills attempts to evade the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is. If it’s anything like the 2011 film – starring Saoirse Ronan as the eponymous teen assassin – then we’re in for a real ride.

Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, iPlayer

Hosted by Stacey Dooley, this new competition series sees ten aspiring make-up artists battle to be named Britain’s next make-up star. Tested in a range of real-world professional assignments, each week the weakest two MUAs enter the elimination face-off, with series judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner deciding which one will go home. The last MUA standing at the end of the series wins a contract assisting some of the world’s top make-artists.
