“We’re having eight people to stay over New Year’s, four of them children under seven, so our plans are built around them. We’re hitting Winter Wonderland as soon as the doors open on the 31st, which sounds like torture but is actually totally bearable at that time (it gets busy around midday) and really magical for the kids. There’s also an entire area with rides and games more suited to toddlers. We’ll then drag them away (hopefully not kicking and screaming) to Darby’s in Nine Elms for a long, boozy lunch: the food and atmosphere there are amazing (don’t skip the ‘Big Mac’ beef nuggets). It’s near the Power Station, so we’ll pop over there during the early evening and swing the kids around the ice rink if we need to burn off more energy.

“At 8pm we’ll do a fake New Year’s ring-in for them, with sparklers and a pretend countdown from YouTube on the TV. Once they’re upstairs in bed, my husband will shuck some oysters delivered by The Wright Brothers, I’ll set out a cheese board, pop some champagne and uncork a double magnum of red procured on trip to France earlier this month. Either the mini karaoke machine or a card game will inevitably come out at some point – neither of which will be very successful (we’ll blame the double magnum for that).”

“After Christmas at home in the country with my family, I am travelling back to London for an New Year’s Eve dinner party with 20 friends. The theme is silver and we are going to go all out with the decorations. I plan to wear this sequin Topshop minidress. As couples, we are taking it in turn to prepare a course of the dinner. Ours is the starter, so naturally we will be heading to M&S. I’m thinking baked camembert with all the sides, and I want to make really pretty platters. The rest of the courses are a surprise. We plan to play games and finish the evening with fireworks. On New Year’s morning, we’re all going to regroup for a hungover walk around Richmond Park.”

“This NYE promises to be very low-key for us – and I can’t wait. After the madness of travelling up and down the country over Christmas, I’m looking forward to some time at home, although that doesn’t necessarily mean staying in. We’ll be starting off the celebrations with a late family lunch in Chelsea at The Trafalgar, a cosy new pub that opened a couple of months ago. We’ll then pop in to see some friends for evening drinks, canapés and games, which will be a chance to mark the event with our teenagers before they head out to meet their friends.

“After that, we’ll go home for my favourite snacky supper – a cheeseboard with all the accoutrements: at least three varieties of crackers, pickles and chutney and a large slab of comté. Once the clock strikes midnight, I’ll head to bed after the fireworks, and start January with an early dog walk to blow off the cobwebs.”

"I’ve just moved house, so this year I’ll be celebrating at home and making the most of the view of the fireworks over the City. I love hosting in my own space and New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse to go all out. We’ll start early – around 6pm – with a pre-dinner fondue moment: lots of cheese, mini baby potatoes, a simple French-style salad and plenty of picky bits (including, inevitably, the full Waitrose party food selection). While that’s happening, I’ll have something more substantial bubbling away – I’m torn between a beef Wellington, a rich stew or a pie topped with sliced potatoes layered gratin-style instead of pastry, which is a bit of a signature.

“Dessert is always pavlova and this year I’m keen to recreate one of those pavlova wreaths I’ve seen all over TikTok. I’ve dressed the table with my favourite H&M candle holder – it holds six tall candles – and I might swap the Christmas décor for a few disco-ball baubles to keep things festive. My Beats speaker will be on all evening for music and we’ll probably end the night watching something wholesome. Outfit-wise, I like comfy but cool – either the flowing metallic Massimo Dutti co-ord everyone’s been loving or my new black velvet Asceno pyjamas, paired with sparkly earrings and fluffy slippers. Low-key, cosy and exactly how I want to see the New Year in."

“New Year’s Eve in our house is always about family, food and a little bit of chaos. This year we’re hosting a dinner party with family friends and my siblings, and I’ll be in charge of the cooking. A big curry with all the sides will take centre stage, followed by our long‑standing tradition: a towering stack of profiteroles for dessert. Once the plates are cleared, sparklers and champagne (Aldi’s own version is excellent value) will light up the garden before we settle in for board games. Our family loves the classics – Articulate  and Trivial Pursuit – and, true to form, my mum will almost certainly win. I’m planning on wearing this black velvet skirt from Nobody’s Child and these sparkly M&S earrings for the occasion.”

“New Year has always been one of my favourite moments in the calendar, largely because it means swapping grey London skies for winter sun. This year, I’m returning to one of my all-time favourite Caribbean islands: St Lucia. I’ll be kicking things off with a morning hike up the Piton, and my go-to for staying cool and supported in the heat is an Alo shorts unitard. Afterwards, the plan is to take the day slow before getting ready for the evening’s celebrations. Dinner is booked at The Coal Pot, a long-time favourite right on the water. Given the humidity, I’m opting for a cherry-red Kai Collective dress with black satin Mango mules. For accessories, I’m leaning into a subtle coastal theme: gold oyster shell earrings from Wolf & Badger and a shell necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane. To finish, I’ll be carrying a velvet Cult Gaia clutch to complement my dress.”

“After several weeks of festive to-ing and fro-ing, I’ve decided there’s nowhere I’d rather ring in the New Year than London. There’s something uniquely magical about the city at this time of year: quieter, softer, somehow suspended between the pace of December and the promise of January. Instead of living out of a suitcase, I’m leaning into a slower, more rooted New Year’s – one that still feels special without the frenzy.

“At the heart of my plans is Jackson Boxer’s Dove, which is hosting its first ever New Year’s Eve dinner. Doors open from 5pm with the final seating at 10pm and I want to snag a spot early in the evening. With last drinks served at 12.15am, it promises to be festive without tipping into chaos – exactly the energy I’m craving this year. I’m all about a good party flat and these Le Monde Beryl ones are finally on sale. I love the Luna silhouette. For a bag, this Topshop one I picked up earlier in the season could easily pass for designer. New Year’s Eve is only one part of the break and I’m determined to make the most of the quiet days that precede and follow it. One of my rituals between Christmas and January is a visit to the National Gallery. With the tourists thinned out and Londoners still cocooned at home, I’m told the rehang is a must-see.”
