BOOK AHEAD: Little Women The Musical

Little Women has been adapted for the stage and tickets have just gone on sale. With an original score, it’s the ideal show to watch over the festive period. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s book, the musical tells the story of the four March sisters – Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy. Jo, the second eldest and an aspiring writer, receives yet another rejection from a publisher. Her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her she can do better by making her stories more personal. Begrudgingly, Jo decides to share how she and her sisters grew up in Civil War America – a tale of self-discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. Tickets start from £18.50.

READ THIS NEW BOOK: A Woman Made Of Snow By Elisabeth Gifford

Fans of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca will love Elisabeth Gifford’s new book, which hit the shelves last week. The author of The Good Doctor of Warsaw takes us to the wild woods of Scotland in this period story that revolves around the dark secrets of a century-old family mystery. It’s 1949 and Caroline Gillan and her new husband Alasdair have moved back to his dilapidated family estate, Kelly Castle. Stuck caring for their tiny baby, and trying to find her way with an opinionated mother-in-law, Caroline feels adrift, alone and unwelcome. But when she is tasked with sorting out the family archives, she discovers a mystery that sparks her back to life. There is one Gillan bride who is completely unknown – no photos exist, no records have been kept – the only thing that is certain is that she had a legitimate child. Alasdair's grandmother. And when a body is found in the grounds of the castle, her hunt becomes more than just a case of curiosity.
