There are plenty of exciting TV and film releases to see you through November. Covering a variety of new picks across Netflix, Now, Disney+ and Prime Video, here’s what to watch this month.

The Unlikely Murderer, Netflix

Graphic designer Stig Engström was an unassuming man from a normal town in Sweden. So how did he become the probable murderer of Sweden's prime minister in 1986? This fictionalised account shows how Palme managed to elude justice right up to his death through a combination of audacity, luck and police incompetence.

Passing, Netflix

Based on Nella Larsen’s novel, Passing tells the story of two black women who are ‘white passing’ and choose to live on opposite sides of the colour divide in 1920s New York. Former childhood friends Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Ruth Negga) bump into each other one afternoon after years apart. Irene reluctantly allows Clare into her home, where she sets her sights on Irene’s husband (André Holland) and family. As their lives become more deeply intertwined, Irene finds her once-steady existence upended by Clare, and complicated further when both their identities come into question.

Red Notice, Netflix

The FBI’s top profiler John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) is on the case when an Interpol-issued Red Notice goes out to capture the world’s most wanted art thief. During a heist, he’s forced to partner with another art thief, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds), in order to bring in ‘The Bishop’ (Gal Gadot). The trio journey around the world in a globe-trotting game of cat-and-mouse.

Tiger King 2, Netflix

Tiger King was the defining TV show of lockdown 1.0. This second instalment continues the story of America’s most notorious big cat owners. Joe Exotic is behind bars and Carole Baskin has closed in on ownership of his disreputable zoo. Old enemies and ‘frenemies’ including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover and James Garretson share new revelations on the motivations, backstories and secrets of the big cat clan – brace yourself for more murder and mayhem.

Bruised, Netflix

Jackie Justice (Halle Berry) is a mixed martial arts fighter who leaves the sport in disgrace. Down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret years later, she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend, and grabs the attention of a league promoter who promises Jackie a life back in the ring. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny – the son she gave up as a teenager – turns up at her doorstep.

The Wheel Of Time, Prime Video

Based on Robert Jordan’s bestselling fantasy novels, The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling world where magic exists, but only certain women are allowed to access it. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) is a member of Aes Sedai, an incredibly powerful all-female organization. She journeys to the small town of Two Rivers to embark on a dangerous journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn – the chosen one who will either save or destroy humanity.

Tick, Tick...BOOM! Netflix

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is behind this musical based on the life of composer and playwright Jonathan Larson – creator of the iconic Broadway show Rent. The film follows Jon (Andrew Garfield) as a young theatre composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next big musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work, he’s feeling the pressure from his friends and family. Plus, the NYC artistic community is being ravaged by Aids. With the clock ticking, Jon faces the question everyone must reckon with: what are we meant to do with the time we have?

Selling Sunset, Season 4, Netflix

Selling Sunset finally returns to our screens later this month. Series four brings an avalanche of drama in the world of luxury real estate. Mary finally breaks her silence on her epic fallout with Christine, who’s juggling her high-flying career with taking care of her new-born son, while Chrishell navigates the world of dating after her divorce from husband Justin Hartley. As usual, the ladies are competing to make it to the top of their game, while trying to keep their personal lives intact.

American Rust, Now

Set in an economically devastated Pennsylvania steel town, American Rust is about good people making bad choices. Chief of police Del Harris (Jeff Daniels) is forced to decide how far he’s willing to go when the woman he loves (Maura Tierney) is thrown into an impossible situation. Her son has been accused of murder and is about to stand trial. Harris must decide whether he wants to keep his unmarked reputation or save the people he loves.

We Work: How To Lose $30BN In Two Weeks, Now

If you were hooked by Netflix’s Fyre Festival documentary, this one’s for you. Commercial property company We Work was valued at $30bn back in 2019. Founded by entrepreneur Adam Neumann, the company operated secretively, despite attracting a string of top investors who threw millions of dollars at it. When Neumann publicly filed documents with detailed information about the business, there was outrage. This doc tells the story of the rise and fall of one of the biggest corporate flameouts and venture capitalist bubbles in recent years – and its hippie-messianic leader.

Sort Of, Now 

Gender fluid Sabi Mehboob (Bilal Baig) is a non-binary millennial trying to balance many identities: child of Pakistani immigrant parents; bartender at an LGBTQ+ bookstore and café; and caregiver to the young children of a hipster couple. The series offers nuanced insight into what it’s like to be an LGBTQ+ person today.

The Colour Room, Now

Marvel’s latest release is an action-packed superhero series set in New York City. Former Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a superhero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Mayor Pete, Prime Video

This film tells the real-life story of Pete Buttigieg who was recently appointed US Secretary of Transportation, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ cabinet member in American history. This fictionalised film brings us inside Pete’s campaign to be the youngest US president, providing intimacy with the candidate, his husband Chasten, and their ambitious team. The film reveals what really goes on inside a campaign – and the ways it changes the lives of those at its centre.
