The Best Street Style, Moments & Trends From London Fashion Week

As London Fashion Week comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the state of the British fashion scene and the key trends and takeaways from the AW23 shows. Here’s what stood out to us…

Flower Details

Somewhat surprising for the autumn/winter collections, floral details had a real moment this time around. Richard Quinn blew everyone away with his cascading floral detail dresses, while Christopher Kane contrasted delicate floral embroidery with oversized masculine tailoring.

Feathers

Feathers were a big hit at LFW and 16Arlington led the way by adding plenty of femininity and glamour to its collection. Julian Macdonald wasn’t far behind, mixing feathers with high-shine metallics and lots of embellishment.

Layered Pinks

Pink has held onto its place as *the* colour over the past few seasons, but British designers reinvented the shade this season with a mix of layered hues – especially when it comes to suiting. Roksanda matched bright pink tailored trousers with a mauve-coloured oversized blazer and train, with a contrasting hot pink bag. Elsewhere, Yuzefi went for a baby pink suit paired with a hot pink bag and heels, while Helen Anthony showed sheer dresses layered with boxy blazers.

Ruffles

Nothing says maximalism quite like ruffles and this year, the runways were overflowing with fun and frills. Tove was a highlight with its abundance of monochrome maxi frills, while Simone Rocha sent dramatic, oversized frill collars down the catwalk.

Quirky Accessories

Bigger, bolder and wilder were the keywords when it came to the accessories. From the oversized ruffle bag at Simone Rocha, to Tove's large pearl flower earrings, we also noticed some quirkier pieces dotted throughout the collection, like the coral pink fluffy hand warmers shown at JW Anderson.

Burberry

Few shows were more hyped than Daniel Lee’s debut at Burberry. Working with Phoebe Philo at Celine and having spent the last few years transforming Bottega Venetta, Lee is well versed in putting a cool twist on the classics. We loved how he breathed new life into Burberry this season by putting his own spin on the house’s signature checks, reimagining them with bolder shades like purple, blue, yellow and red. The almost punk feel was balanced by industrial style pieces and silhouettes – from green trench coats to faux furs. Again, oversized bags featured heavily, so expect to see fashion girls swapping out their crossbodies come September.

Monologues

Spoken word was a big part of the shows this season, with fashion muse Florence Pugh opening Harris Reed’s show with a speech in tribute to the designer. Elsewhere, Sir Ian read The Coming of Arthur by Alfred Lord Tennyson at S.S Daley’s show, dressed in a head-to-toe sailor-inspired outfit, complete with a beret, silk scarf and navy trousers.

The Moncler Genius Party

It’s rare for a single fashion week party to make a list like this, but a VIP-studded, 10,000-person festival is an exception to that rule. Moncler’s Moncler Genius collection, presented by Pharell Willams – Louis Vuitton’s newly appointed menswear creative director – wasn't even the most talked about point of the night. Performances from Alicia Keys and Jay Z stole the show, as did the foam party room and a guest list featuring Justin and Hailey Bieber, Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams.
