Brand To Emulate: Chloé

French house Chloé is known for its elevated take on bohemian luxury – something new creative director Chemena Kamali is determined to embrace. Recent runway sightings of floaty tops, romantic silhouettes, oversized sunglasses and braided bags also confirm that the label’s feminine aesthetic is going to be big in AW24. Here’s a bit more about the brand and how to get the look, whatever your budget…

the BRAND

Egyptian-born Parisian designer Gaby Aghion founded Chloé  during the peak of the prêt-à-porter (ready to wear) movement. Intended to be the go-to brand for soft, feminine luxury clothing, it has grown into one of the most iconic womenswear houses in the world – past creative heads include Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo and Clare Waight Keller. Some might even be surprised to hear Karl Lagerfeld took the reins in 1960, helping to establish the brand’s romantic and youthful image that endures today.

the AESTHETIC

Early designs stood apart from other haute couture designers of the time thanks to their looser silhouettes, softer fabrics and lighter colours. The use of chiffon established Chloé’s aesthetic as ethereal and delicate. While its bohemian image is now well established, the outerwear collection continues to feature clean lines and neat silhouettes. Elsewhere, bags like the Paddington and the Drew have achieved ‘it’ status, attracting celebrity fans like Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung.

the COLLECTION

Modern-day Chloé is still largely feminine – look at the abundance of layered ruffles, soft organza gowns and embroidered lace to understand the intention – but it can do structure too. Elegant leather capes and gabardine trenches paired with flared jeans and over-the-knee boots still pay homage to Chloé’s Parisian roots.

the LOOK

If the whimsical femininity of Chloé is to your taste but not quite your budget, the high street has everything you need to recreate this style. From coin-detail necklaces to suede studded bags, Mango has delivered on the bohemian aesthetic this season. Meanwhile, H&M has affordable chiffon blouses, and there are great trench coats at Karen Millen and COS.
