The Hot Product: Knee-High Chunky Boots
The Brands
Last year, Bottega Veneta’s Tire boot took the fashion world by storm. It seemed every influencer, stylist and fashionista worth their salt owned a pair lug-sole ankle boots. This season, track soles are back – only this time, in a knee-high length. Bottega has unveiled a pair, as have Ganni and The Row, while fellow Italian brand Gia Borghini might have delivered this year’s must-have design. Part of the label’s collaboration with influencer Pernille Teisbaek, the ‘Perni 07’ has already sparked a wave of similar styles. From high street to high end, it’s safe to say there’s something to suit every budget.
The Design
Flat knee-high boots have been on the backburner in recent seasons, but thanks to that track sole, the latest designs are both cool and practical. They might divide opinion – some people think they look like wellies, while others embrace their ugly-cool appeal – but they’re everywhere right now. To play it safe, opt for classic black leather, while white or fully rubberised designs offer a more daring take on the trend.
The Fans
The SL fashion team has discussed this Camille Charriere look at length – some thought it a fashion-forward hit, others felt the boots were a step too far. A few weeks later, Leandra Medine Cohen debuted a sleeker pair by The Row on her Instagram, declaring: “[I] used to think I hated knee-high boots but they were just… out of fashion. Trends are a funny expression of the mind’s malleability.” Indeed, with Medine and Charriere plus women like Leia Sfez and Claire Rose Cliteur all getting on board, it seems knee-high boots are set to be one of this season’s biggest trends.
The Look
Just like a track sole ankle boot, a chunky knee-high boot is a great way to add some edge to your outfit. Use them to toughen up a printed midi dress, or tuck in a pair of leggings or jeans for an easy, everyday look. Just remember to stick to a black colour palette and balance out a slimmer bottom half with a boxy jacket or chunky roll neck. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try them with leather shorts or a mini dress while the weather’s still mild.
