Big Tote Bag

“Everyone needs a summer tote they can throw all their essentials in – I like neutral canvas styles, as well as straw baskets and neoprene. The key is to go for something really oversized. This will instantly elevate your look and you can take it from day to night, too.”

Leather Trimmed Linen Tote, £89 | Arket

Cut Out Dress

“It goes without saying that maxi dresses are a summer essential, but with a longer style, it’s important to have a bit of skin on show to balance out the amount of fabric. Cut out designs are so chic – I have another with strap detail on the back which has a real wow factor. This Mango design is the perfect day to night dress – just avoid heels with this length. Instead, opt for a strappy flat sandal to look elegant but understated.”

Cut-Out Dress, £49.99 | Mango

Evening Bag

“When it comes to evening bags, I like something a little more statement – so something beaded like this one is perfect. It’ll go nicely with a dress or linen trousers and is just big enough to fit your phone, keys and wallet.”

Wooden Bead Bag, £29.99 | Mango

Light Blazer

“I love the colour of this Arket blazer –oversized blazers are a year-round essential, but it’s nice to experiment with more playful colours like blue and yellow during the spring and summer. Just make sure you go for a lighter fabric, like linen, and size up to nail that relaxed look. You can wear it with pretty much everything – with denim, over a dress… there’s nothing it won’t go with. If pastels aren’t your thing, try beige or light browns instead.”

Oversized Cotton-Hemp Blazer, £135 | Arket

Long Shorts

“for me, a longer, 80s-inspired short is a bit cooler than anything too short and tight. Denim works well, but I also find tailored Bermuda styles really useful, too – I wear them over a bikini or with a top and heels for a simple, chic look.”

Denim Shorts, £17.99 | H&M

Oversized Sunglasses

“There’s a pair of old Céline sunglasses I love, which I sadly lost, but I spotted these in Mango which are a similar shape and size. Just like blazers and trousers, oversized is the way to go here – I like square designs, as well as cat eye shapes, in brown, black and white. A sunglass chain is a fun way to add some personality to the look, too.”

Oversize Sunglasses, £12.99 (were £19.99) | Mango

Statement Belt

“I have a big collection of belts as you can really wear them with everything, whether it’s over a shirt with a bikini, with jeans or a dress. It’s a great way to add some interest to your look, too – I have lots of leather ones, but this crochet one feels nice and summery.”

Crochet Belt, £9.99 (was £17.99) | Mango

Strappy Heels

“Day to day, I live in Birkenstocks, but a pair of strappy heels are essential for summer evenings. Brown leather is a little softer than black in the heat, as is white. Wearing them with dresses is a little too polished for my liking – instead, try pairing them with Bermuda shorts and white trousers.”

Sandals, £17.99 | H&M

Summer Jewellery

“Lots of layered chains are often all you need to add to a shirt and shorts to elevate your look, and I like to mix in shells, wood and beads for a beachier feel. I like to pick these up while I’m on holiday, but as that’s not possible right now, try H&M, Massimo Dutti and for a bit of a treat, Bottega Veneta.”

Necklaces, £19.99 | H&M

Sun Hat

“Whether on the beach or in the city, you’ll get so much wear from a straw hat – wide brim styles are my favourite as they’re a real statement and can add instant interest to even the simplest of outfits. It’s useful to have both black and beige colours – wear them with a bikini and linen shirt on holiday, or with a dress and sandals everywhere else.”

Straw Hat, £45 | Arket

Swimsuit

“A chic swimsuit looks great with a linen shirt, but you can make it work beyond the beach with trousers, skirts and shorts. Just opt for a classic cut in a neutral colour (as they’re the most versatile) then add some chain necklaces to add some interest.”

Textured Swimsuit, £27 (was £45) | & Other Stories

White Trousers

“Whether it’s denim or linen, a pair of white trousers looks so chic for both day and night. My advice would be to choose a wide or barrel leg, then size up by one or two – you can add a belt to cinch in your waist and I find that slouchy silhouette is so much cooler. You don’t need to spend a fortune, either – the high street has so many great options or, failing that, check out the vintage markets.”

Wide Twill Trousers, £17.99 | H&M
