Our Editors’ Favourite Boots For Autumn

I’m always drawn to boots with an interesting shape or texture – they’re an easy way to make my everyday outfits feel more considered. Steve Madden’s red mock-croc ones have that runway feel, with a glossy finish and the kind of statement silhouette that would work well with simple denim and oversized knits. Ruched styles are another key look this season and Zara’s beige boots are a great take on the trend. The gathered detailing adds interest without feeling overdone, especially styled with a full skirt or loose jeans. For something more understated, Zara’s black croc-effect boots have that relaxed, slouchy shape which feels more directional. They’d work just as well with culottes and denim as they would with skirts.

I love a boot with a smaller heel and this Massimo Dutti pair is perfect. A black ankle boot is an essential and on the high street, ARKET does them so well – particularly if you’re looking for leather. If you’re willing to make more of an investment this season, House of Dagmar is also very much on my radar right now.

I already own this Kurt Geiger pair and love the deep shade of red – it feels so autumnal. The kitten heel also makes them really wearable. I’m missing a chocolate brown boot in my rotation and these knee-high Mango ones fit the bill. I’ve never met a pair of animal-print boots I didn’t love – the sharp pointed toe and stiletto heel will pull any look together.

A good ankle boot should balance durability with elegance. Dear Frances gets the shape and quality just right, and this lighter coloured leather feels like the perfect addition to my wardrobe. Zara’s croc-effect longline boots will add texture to any look and would work perfectly with a pencil skirt, while Zara's leather ankle boots are a style I’ll reach for on repeat all season long.

It takes a lot to get me out of loafers but I can’t deny the power of a great boot. For a mid-price investment, Tony Bianco is one of my favourite brands for cool, slightly unexpected shapes. COS is also brilliant for trend-led styles on the high street, while Anonymous Copenhagen is where to go if you want something not everyone else has.

The glossy leather and mini wedge make ARKET's black boots feel instantly current – but they’ll still go with everything. I can see myself tucking slim jeans into boots again this season and these would be perfect. I also love a brown suede ankle boot: the small heel makes this pair really practical, while the square toe gives them a more modern feel. If you’re looking to invest, Dear Frances always does beautiful options. This burgundy pair has an slightly elongated toe that's equal parts timeless and on-trend.
