As a forever staple in any wardrobe, the trench is one of those pieces I return to season after season – but for SS26, it’s all about elevated proportions and thoughtful detailing. I loved the more directional takes we saw on the runways at Givenchy and Celine, where voluminous silhouettes added a luxe element to an otherwise classic piece. Personally, I always look for interesting details that feel premium – think oversized pockets, statement collars and structured lapels that instantly lift the overall look. It’s also key to avoid awkward, mid-calf lengths; opting for a maxi coat will keep your trench on the right side of contemporary and cool.

I’m drawn to trenches that feel clean and understated but still have something a little different about them. The Gestuz style stands out thanks to its funnel neckline, which gives the classic silhouette a slightly more modern feel, while the Soeur coat feels softer and more relaxed. I love the light grey shade as an alternative to beige and the slightly oversized cut makes it perfect for easy spring layering.

The high street always has such strong trench coats at this time of year. The standout styles right now include this COS one, I love the shape with the open back silhouette. Zara also has several great pieces. I love the paler shade and funnel neck detail on this one. Finally, this TOTEME cropped style is great if you’re looking for a trench with twist.

My style is far from classic, so while I love the idea of a trench, I opt for styles that feel a bit more interesting or modern. Brands like Camila and Marc and Arakii do this so well. On the high street, Zara is a great if you want a trench in a different fabric or shape – just like this waxed contrast check one.

I already own a classic trench, so I’m looking to add something with a point of difference this season. The Arakii style is top of my wish list – the funnel neckline and detachable cape make it feel modern and cool. The Dissh cropped trench would be a versatile addition but I’m also missing a suede option– The Frankie Shop trench in khaki would slot seamlessly into my wardrobe.

I’m drawn to trenches with strong silhouettes and architectural details – pieces that feel more like a statement piece than a classic cover-up. The cocoon shape from Givenchy is so impactful, while the structured tailoring on the Le Collet style feels refined but directional. I also love the drama of a cape – it adds movement and makes an otherwise timeless piece feel modern and elevated.
