The Micro Trend
Purple has always had a certain drama but this season it feels more wearable than ever. From rich aubergine and deep plum to vivid violet, the runways made a convincing case for embracing it in all its forms. Rather than going head-to-toe, though, it’s the pairings that feel most interesting – particularly with red, burgundy and other saturated shades.
A signature of Tom Ford-era Gucci in the late 90s and early 2000s, red and purple are back in the spotlight for AW26. Mugler led the way with a sharply structured, colour-blocked top styled with tailored grey trousers, while Balenciaga also embraced the high-impact look. At Saint Laurent, meanwhile, saturated tones took on a more sensual feel through dramatic eveningwear, lace and glossy textures. The trick is to play with contrast rather than overthink it. A flash of purple against neutrals or a violet knit with red denim is enough to give familiar wardrobe staples a modern update without going overboard.
Looking To Tap Into The Trend? Here Are Three Looks To Recreate...
Look 1
Give office dressing a tonal twist with rich chocolate brown – that grounds the statement red skirt, while a muted purple roll-neck adds a subtle flash of colour.
Look 2
The red jeans do all the talking here, especially when paired with a simple grey knit and a purple scarf. Knitted socks and Saint Laurent slides keep things relaxed without taking away from the look.
Look 3
For a more of a statement, this TOTEME set delivers on drama. Maximalists can take it one step further with an animal-print clutch and red heels.
