8 Hairbrushes That Prevent Breakage

When it comes to preventing breakage and keeping hair sleek and shiny, investing in the right products is essential. As for tools, none is more important than your hairbrush. From padded designs to dedicated de-tanglers, here are some of our favourites…
01

THE CLASSIC: Tangle Teezer The Wet Detangler Hair Brush, £12

You can always rely on Tangle Teezer for tools that are designed to smooth without snagging, and their latest launch is no exception. Award-winning, not only does it detangle, it can be used in the shower, too, helping to distribute products (including conditioners and masks) throughout your hair. The flexible bristles allow it to glide through seamlessly, while the millennial pink design looks great on your bedside table.

THE INVESTMENT: Balmain All Purpose Spa Brush, £37.50

Balmain’s heavy brush is an investment, but it’s versatility makes it worth the money. Made with 100% boar hair and stiff nylon bristles, it makes light work of knots and tangles, while helping to distribute natural oils evenly. You can even use it gently over the scalp for a stimulating massage. It works well on all hair types, and can be used on extensions, too.

THE ALL-ROUNDER: GHD Paddle Brush, £21.95

An SL favourite, this brush is lightweight with flexible, extended bristles which never catch or snarl. Keep the tool vertical as you brush it through your hair, starting at the bottom and working your way up. If you want to use it to add shine or volume, hold it horizontal as you blow-dry, brushing your hair forward. This will create tension and volume at the root, while also helping to dry your strands straight.

THE CULT HERO: Wet Brush Pro Detangler, £12.84

The Wet Brush needs no introduction and this Pro Detangler remains our go-to product from the range. Designed to smooth wet hair (which is when it’s most delicate), this brush is made with IntelliFlex bristles to move and bend, releasing tangles painlessly. It works well on dry hair, too, while the small nodules never feel abrasive or harsh as you brush.

THE HIGH-STREET HERO: Denman D93 Gentle Tangle Tamer, £11.42

Denman brushes are some of the best on the high-street. This Tangle Tamer is brilliant for those who suffer with scalp sensitivity as the ball-tipped bristles keep brushing smooth and gentle, with minimal breakage. 08

THE VOLUMISER: R+CO Detangling Brush, £25

There’s a reason this is often out of stock. One of the best tools for detangling, the non-slip design allows you to get a firm grip on knots, while the soft bristles move through the hair without any snagging – even those with dense, curly, coily, kinky or fine, flat hair types. While metal-handled brushes can heat up fast and cause more damage when blow-drying, this plastic version does the opposite. It may cause some static, but simply brush downwards to smooth it out.
