5 Tile Trends Worth Knowing About

There's little that Ca' Pietra's Head of Creative Grazzie Wilson doesn't know about tiles. Whether you're keen to tap into a certain trend or find something to fit your budget, Grazzie is the woman to turn to. Here, she tells us about the five trends she thinks are going to be big this spring – and how best to use them in your home.

01

Stripes

Stripes are here to stay. From fashion to interiors, they’re a perennial trend and are set to be bigger and better than ever in 2024. Don’t go thinking they’re reserved for bedroom curtains and accent cushions, either – you could just as easily style up your bathroom with striped designs to make it feel fresher. Opt for colour pairings that reflect your style – whether that’s bold and contrasting or soft and subtle – and choose from matte or gloss to achieve a textured feel.

Zellige/Bejmat Tiles

Love the grout-less, butted-together look? You’re not alone. Associated most with Moroccan Zellige tiles, this trend is all about finding the beauty in imperfection. The key thing to remember is that in order to create the right Zellige effect, you’ll want your tiles to lie as close together as possible. That means no spacers anywhere near your tiles. If you want the bare look but with the stability of grout, then go for a super-slim grout line with the excess wiped away.

03

Chequerboard

This isn’t necessarily a trend just for 2024 – we’ve seen chequerboard tiles laid for hundreds of years in their classic black and white form. However, what we’re seeing more of this year are tile pairings from the same family but in an array of shades. These new combinations still create chequerboard designs, but in a way that brings the look right to date. Don’t be afraid of veering off a well-trodden path – terrazzo designs can be paired together to add a fun twist to this classic look, too.

04

Terracotta

Demand for this natural material is rocketing. I love how the rustic, earthy quality adds character and charm to even the simplest of spaces. Durable and practical, it’s ideal for hard-working, high-traffic areas, and because it comes in different tones, it instantly adds depth and texture. Not only that, terracotta tiles are incredibly versatile too, working well in modern kitchens or traditional boot rooms.

05

'Tiles Well Travelled'

Interiors inspired by faraway shores are a constant feature in magazines and on Instagram, but 2024’s ‘travelling trend’ is free-spirited in its outlook. From Italian terrazzo to Mediterranean hand-painted tiles, these designs are the way to inject colour, joy and celebration into a scheme. Whether you want a bold blast of vibrant colour or something a little more soothing, this look offers visual relief, and there are hundreds of inspiring colour combinations to choose from.
