Look Around This Riverside Family Home
The Property
Originally a four-bedroom Victorian terraced house spanning 2,648sq ft in Putney, this elegant property has undergone a transformative renovation. Now home to a creative family with a young daughter, the house has expanded to 4,000 sq ft, with a new basement and roof extension maximising both floor space and natural light. The reimagined layout includes five bedrooms, two kitchens, two living rooms, a dedicated music room, a rooftop home office with a generous terrace overlooking the river, a gym, a wine cellar and utility rooms. The result is an elevated yet practical space designed for both intimate family living and large-scale entertaining.
The Brief
The vision for this home was a sophisticated yet welcoming family retreat. The house was designed to support the family’s love of entertaining with a seamless flow between spaces. A sense of lightness and airiness was a priority for our clients and influenced their choice of materials and finishes. A soft, neutral palette forms the foundation, complemented by textural contrasts and carefully curated layered lighting. Every design decision – from architectural detailing to bespoke furniture – was made with a focus on liveability.
We collaborated with a flooring supplier to develop a bespoke finish for solid oak floors throughout the home, and used polished plaster on walls and ceilings to create depth and texture, providing a pared-back background that maintained depth and visual interest for layering with lighting, furniture and soft furnishings. The furniture selection focused on a harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements.
TAKE THE TOUR
Hallway
It was essential that the hallway felt like a continuation of all four floors, with harmony in the finishes and colour choices. The same oak flooring was used on the new staircase, complemented by a paint finish matching the polished plaster walls throughout the house.

Kitchen, Dining & Living Area
The starting point was a beloved artwork owned by the client. Drawing from its rich hues, a palette of softer, muted tones was created for the entire floor. Darker hues were reserved for smaller-scale upholstery pieces – dining chairs, bar stools and a statement rug – as well as the paint colour for the kitchen island, while the large sofa is upholstered in pale yellow linen to maintain an airy, serene feel. The marble throughout the house was carefully selected in Italy – the kitchen features green and deep pink veining that echoes the artwork’s tones.

Main Bedroom
This room has beautiful river views, which inspired the central placement of the bed. A bespoke bed was designed with a half-height bedhead and a full-width storage unit at the back, providing highly functional storage. Full-height wardrobes on both sides of the room were designed to blend seamlessly with the walls, ensuring a lighter and more open feel.

En-Suite Bathroom
The peach marble Calacatta Rosa is one of the standout materials in the house, creating a warm, elegant atmosphere. A generously sized double shower was inspired by Roman baths and designed to have a spa-like feel. The bespoke vanity unit features the same Calacatta Rosa marble on top, reinforcing a sense of cohesion and calm.

Girl’s Bedroom
The room is designed to evolve with the family’s young daughter, and features playful yet timeless elements. Soft, muted tones and layered textiles create a comforting and imaginative retreat. Bespoke features, such as the custom daybed and cloud bed, are specifically designed to bring a sense of luxury while creating functional space for sleepovers and playdates.

Guest Bedroom
There are three guest bedrooms, and each one was designed with a unique mood and feel. This bedroom also has river views, so we wanted to embrace a calm, serene aesthetic that complemented the scenery. We envisioned a bespoke four-poster bed for this room, but due to ceiling height constraints, we had to adapt our design to create a bespoke suspension bed canopy instead, which we ultimately preferred.

Study
One of the most notable spaces in the house, the study is on the newly formed rooftop, offering good views and abundant natural light. Our clients usually work from home, so it was important for this space to be as functional as possible. Most of the furniture was custom designed for this space.
