Interiors Micro Trend: Country Style
Traditional décor has had an upgrade, with all the hallmarks of classic English decorating, including layers of pattern and texture, adornments such as fringing and ruffles, and a generous dose of antique furniture. But this time round, interior designers are playing with balance, off-setting busy patterns with muted plains, adding decorative lighting but in modern materials and using feminine designs alongside stronger minimalist shapes.
“There’s a growing appreciation of the classic English aesthetic and those feelings of comfort and nostalgia,” explains Tiffany Duggan, founder of Studio Duggan. “Our headboards, skirted slipper chairs and upholstered ottomans encapsulate the ‘trad’ look perfectly.”
Big impact items, including pieces like four-poster beds, are also getting the modern-day treatment. “It’s really all about fabric choice – we like to choose a pattern and then something complimentary but smaller scale to complement it. A stripe always works well. Playful trim or fringes in a zingy colour like a berry red or citrine green can also add a playful twist,” adds Tiffany.
