Woo-hoo! M·A·C’s Ruby Woo Is Expanding

M·A·C’s Ruby Woo red lipstick is one of the most iconic beauty products of all time. Universally flattering, its fans – including A-listers like Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Angelina Jolie – have stayed loyal to the blue-toned cherry hue for more than 20 years. Case in point: around the world, four Ruby Woo lipsticks still sell every minute. Now M·A·C is finally expanding on its popular red with three new formulas – each with different textures and finishes, here’s what you need to know...

CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH M·A·C, THE NO.1 LIP COLOUR BRAND

THE RUBY WOO BACKGROUND...

Referred to as the ‘Little Black Dress Of Red Lipsticks’, Ruby Woo is M·A·C’s best-selling red lipstick of all time. It’s the one shade make-up artists and beauty insiders consistently recommend – if you’re only going to invest in one red lipstick, make it this. Launched in 1999, did you know the brand’s developers never set out to create it? In trying to tweak the formula of one of its beloved scarlet shades, Russian Red, they ended up creating a new, slightly less matte version which became an instant hit with the team. Bright, dynamic and completely different to everything else on the market, it’s easy to see why Ruby Woo quickly entered the brand’s Retro Matte Lipstick line-up.

THE REASON FOR THE RUBY WOO EXPANSION...

Ever since the launch of Ruby Woo, M·A·C has received multiple requests from fans to see more of it. By way of response, the brand has now expanded on the popular shade, releasing a Retro Matte Liquid Lip, Powder Kiss Lipstick and Powder Kiss Liquid Lip version. The original Retro Matte Lipstick plus the new textures are all available in four coordinating limited-edition crimson tubes, each has the shade name displayed in a fun font on the front. While maintaining the vibrancy of the original shade, they’ll allow you to play with different finishes for a matte effect.

THE NEW TEXTURES IN FULL...

Ruby Phew, Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour

Though M·A·C’s matte liquid lipstick range has existed since 2015, Ruby Woo has never been part of the line-up – until now. If you’re looking for opaque, high-impact definition, then this is the texture for you. With an inky formula, it dries down fast with a rich colour payoff that really goes the distance. It’s the longest lasting of the new Ruby Woo crew, and it fades beautifully without any smudging. We love the teardrop-shaped applicator, which allows you to sculpt your lip shape as you go.

Ruby New, Powder Kiss Lipstick

Just like the original, this comes in a tube format, but with a softer, subtler effect. You’ll still reap the benefits of the classic, vibrant blue-red hue, but this one is creamier in texture, making it easier to apply. It dries down into a wearable matte, and the formula never cakes or flakes – think serious longevity with an unbeatable, velvety finish.

Ruby Boo, Powder Kiss Liquid Lip Colour

A liquid-mousse hybrid, this feels incredibly satisfying on the lips. Slightly pinker than the other textures listed, the fresh feel makes it feminine and wearable – not to mention appropriate for both day and night. Use the circular applicator tip to paint on the colour for even coverage, blending with your fingertip to create more of a healthy flush. Have a little leftover? Tap the excess onto the cheeks – the colour works just as well on the face to bring everything together.

PAIR WITH…

For a fuller finish, shape and define your lips with M·A·C’s Lip Pencil in Ruby Woo, taking it slightly above your lip line for a bit of extra volume. Use your finger to smudge it in for that on-trend, diffused effect – and don’t forget to prep lips first with a formula like M·A·C’s Prep + Prime Lip. As each texture is predominantly matte, you’ll want to maintain a smooth canvas underneath your colour.
