The London Fashion Week Show With A Difference

In and amongst the glitz and glamour, Fashion Week is often criticised for its lack of diversity on the runway. Enter Temperley London, the Brit brand whose SS19 show celebrated not just great fashion, but women of all sizes, ages and ethnicities…

It takes a lot to detract from a Temperley dress – romantic, ethereal and with a heavy dose of drama, the designer’s eponymous label is frequently a LFW highlight. But despite floaty signature styles and feminine fashion by the bucket load, it was the stellar line-up that set industry tongues wagging; rather than parading the pieces on the typical roster of catwalk names and faces, friends of the brand were enlisted instead.

Stars included actress Helen McRory of Peaky Blinders and Harry Potterfame, Game of Thrones alum Nathalie Emmanuelle, singer Corinne Bayley Rae, author, influencer and SL friend Jasmine Hemsley, and photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. Professional models still made the cut, but the likes of Gigi and Bella, so prolific at New York just last week, were eschewed in favour of industry veterans, including Laura Bailey and a heavily pregnant Arizona Mews.

At a time where diversity across all industries is under a spotlight, it was a refreshing alternative to the usual fashion week catalogue, with all ages and races represented; plus, with goddess gowns, statement sequins and flattering long-line cuts all prevalent, Temperley officially established itself as the purveyor of what modern women really want.

The Temperley London SS19 Collection is available to pre-order online now.
