Best Dressed MET Gala 2019 | sheerluxe.com
Forget the Oscars – there’s no bigger night in fashion than the annual MET Gala, and this year the gliteratti certainly didn’t disappoint.
Favourites 2

Stars from the stage, screen, music and fashion worlds all turned out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraising gala last night. Held each year on the first Monday in May, the theme coincides with the museum’s latest exhibition at its Costume Institute – this year that meant Camp: Notes on Fashion. Hosts included legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Lady Gaga along with surprising additions Serena Williams and Harry Styles, and few disappointed when it came to the dress code, with vast legions of tulle, feathers, sequins and lamé adorning the pink carpet. A celebration of all things drama, here are our best dressed from the night…

Who: Emma Roberts

Wearing: Giambattista Valli

Why we love it: It’s no surprise that this tulle creation has seduced team SL. Its bubblegum pink shade modernises the look, whilst festival-inspired florals make for a refreshing accessories look.

Who: Gwyneth Paltrow

Wearing: Chloé

Why we love it: This may not be the most theme-compliant look of the night, but Gwyneth + pale yellow + Victoriana neckline = a winner in our books. Soft, feminine and romantic, this is proof you can do black tie dressing without baring too much skin.

Who: Anna Wintour

Wearing: Chanel

Why we love it: It takes serious skill to be able to embrace a theme whilst still remaining true to your signature look, but naturally Anna Wintour pulled it off. That means a floral long dress and statement necklace, with the addition of an oversized marabou cape for a camp flourish.

Who: Gisele

Wearing: Dior

Why we love it: This full-bodied, cape-style dress proves lamé is the way to do pink to avoid a sickly sweet look. Gisele’s pared-back beauty look allows the dramatic design to speak for itself.

Who: Sienna Miller

Wearing: Paco Rabanne

Why we love it: This metallic dress feels surprisingly modern, thanks to its puff sleeve and slinky fit. Sienna Miller’s unexpected beauty look – a hark back to Renaissance make-up – is the perfect juxtaposition for a theme-appropriate finish.

Who: Taylor Hill

Wearing: Ralph Lauren

Why we love it: Ok, it may be another pink dress with a marabou cape, but we can’t fault this romantic, feminine look on Victoria’s Secret model Taylor Hill. Consider this the smart alternative to the slip dress – just add dramatic diamonds for a finished look.

Who: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Wearing: Oscar De La Renta

Why we love it: This is, hands down, our winner of the night. A nude, sparkly dress is kept interesting thanks to halterneck and cut-out detailing, whilst a dramatic feathered cape (again) adds drama.

Who: Lily-Rose Depp

Wearing: Chanel

Why we love it: It may be Chanel, but this black dress with gold adornment has serious Liz-Hurley-in-Versace vibes. A fun 90s throwback, we love this subtle nod to the night’s theme.

David Fisher/REX/Shutterstock

Who: Kate Moss

Wearing: Marc Jacobs

Why we love it: Capes were clearly the micro trend of the night and Kate Moss’s slinky silver style is a refreshing alternative to the girly designs elsewhere. Reminiscent of armour, we love this mesh design for a powerful take on red carpet dressing.

Who: Sara Sampaio

Wearing: August Getty

Why we love it: This is the perfect balance between dramatic enough for the theme, but still soft, pretty and wearable(ish). With its structured corset and oversized tulle skirt, it has all the romance and drama of a fairytale princess.

Who: Regina King

Wearing: Oscar De La Renta

Why we love it: Sequins? Check. Tulle? Check. Giant ruffle? Check. This dress has it all. Pleating, embellishment and a train are all subdued by an elegant champagne shade, whilst the halterneck fit offers a modern finish.

Who: Emily Blunt

Wearing: Michael Kors

Why we love it: Trust Emily Blunt to nail the theme and still look elegant at the same time. This dramatic gold ruffled style would be out of place at any other event, but with its matching accessories and flattering fit, it has all the drama you’d expect from the gala.
