Product Spotlight: Escentric Molecule 01
The Background Of ‘01’…
Back in 2006, the concept for ‘Escentric 01’ was unheard of in the beauty industry. Perfumer Geza Schoen wanted to focus on one key ingredient – ‘Iso E Super’ – which had been used in perfumery since the mid-1970s. Initially taking a single dose of this synthetic molecule to create a perfume that utilised 65% of it, when that proved successful, he went full throttle and used it in its entirety for ‘Molecule 01’. The rest, of course, is history. As for the scent, it’s warm, velvety and full of amber and wood. Its longevity is impressive, too – unlike similar natural fragrances, it lingers for hours on the skin long beyond the initial spritz.
Why It’s Become A Global Phenomenon…
Even if you don’t wear it yourself, chances are you know someone who does. People often say their fragrances get them stopped in the street, but this one really will earn you some attention. The best part? Its ability to blend with the wearer’s natural pheromones creates a stand-out scent that’s truly unique to you. Geza explains: “Fragrance – in my opinion – adapts to each wearer’s unique chemistry. Which is why it’s unsurprising to hear people say they can’t smell ‘01’ on themselves, but they can on others. Our molecules are very singular and because of that, they mix seamlessly with your own skin chemistry to create a unique aura and a more powerful, impactful scent.” That’s part of its appeal, too – Escentric 01 is never cloying or overbearing. Instead, it’s subtle and seductive, with just a hint of ‘something’. No wonder its fan base includes the likes of Kate Moss and Madonna – to name only a few.
How It Continues To Evolve…
Since the launch of Molecule 01 the brand has launched another four different Molecule fragrances numbered 02 03, 04 and 05, each featuring different aroma molecules but none have caused the same stir as the original. More recently, the brand has expanded with a separate launch called M+. It consists of three new classics, each of which have a more notable ingredient added per fragrance – like iris, mandarin or patchouli. Each one stands out in its own right, but if you love the original, you’re guaranteed to fall hard for the new additions. Expect the same depth and velvety, unisex quality with Iso E Super at the heart, but with the addition of more floral and fruity notes. If you’re into fresh, powdery smells, ‘Iris’ is worth checking out, while ‘Patchouli’ is a must-try for those that like their fragrances on the richer, headier side and Mandarin is a hit of pure zest.
What The Brand Says…
Escentric Molecule 01 has topped the fragrance bestseller list for years, which is testament to both its quality and wearability. However, there’s more to its success than sheer word-of-mouth and cult status. Geza expands: “The choice of ‘Iso E Super’ as our first Molecule fragrance was completely the right decision to make. As we know now, it not only has a beautiful olfactoric sensation, it also stimulates one of our five remaining pheromone receptors to create an effect like nothing else. It has an animal, unisex magnetism about it that people love, which is why we left it untouched – until now. Our new launches are a logical evolution to our existing portfolio. Iris, in my opinion, is one of the most magical ingredients we have in perfumery. However, its often layered in other scents, whereas we’ve created one which isn’t hindered by other ingredients. As for ‘Patchouli’ and ‘Mandarin’, these were ingredients we hadn’t previously looked at, even though they blended so well with ‘Iso E Super.’ Each fragrance is different and unique, but what we’re really proud of is they all have the same warmth and unisex quality as the original.”
