Everything A Top Facialist Does To Get Glowing Skin
AM
In my mid-30s, slower mornings are important for my cortisol levels. I’ve designed a life that supports a softer start to the day, beginning with warm water and lemon before heading out for a 30-minute walk with my dogs. I’m very lucky to have nature on my doorstep and being outside first thing really grounds me. Afterwards, I’ll have a nourishing breakfast with lots of protein.
Then comes some form of facial work – whether that’s gua sha, fascia work, lymphatic drainage or massage. I decide what my skin needs on the day but it’s important to create some movement in the skin, whether that’s with my fingers or a tool.
I shower in the morning and two or three times a week, I’ll dry brush beforehand. I like to use La Bonne Brosse’s Body Brush N°02. At the moment, I’m loving Mauli’s Sacred Union Body Wash. I only use it under my arms and on my intimate area – there’s no need to soap the entire body, as this can leave the skin feeling dry.
The Living Libations Best Skin Ever Seabuckthorn Oil is a staple in my routine. I genuinely wouldn’t know what to do without it. In the morning, I take three pumps onto a warm, damp cotton pad and massage it into my skin. This is my morning cleanse and it always leaves my skin feeling balanced and happy. Whenever I stray from it, I’m quickly reminded that I need to come back.
As for serums, less is more. Keeping my skin happy and hydrated is the most important thing, so I love the Mēditatif Restorative Elixir. It has a beautiful lightweight texture that absorbs into the skin and I like to sweep it in the direction of the lymphatic system. It contains hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and glycerin – all ingredients that keep my skin hydrated – and they’re sourced from an organic farm. It’s uncomplicated, which is exactly what works for my skin.
My current moisturiser is Adipeau’s Volume Cream. It uses a blend of fatty acids and lipids intended to interact with the adipocytes, or fat cells, beneath the skin – an area that’s often overlooked. The cream essentially absorbs through the hair follicles, so I like to leave a slightly richer layer around the mouth and eyes, where there may be less volume. Over time, this is intended to absorb into the deeper layers and leave the skin looking subtly fuller. With consistency, I’ve really seen a difference in my skin.I love that Adipeau is a science-driven brand with a natural formula. It also makes the skin look incredibly juicy.
The last step in my morning routine is SPF. I like Mimétique’s Face Fluid SPF50. It’s lightweight and absorbs nicely into the skin. I usually let my skin be the main character, so I don’t wear much make-up. I’ll normally apply a little lip product – my current go-to is Violet Fr’s Lip Nectar in ‘Bêtise. I leave it on for a minute before removing it, which leaves behind a lovely wash of colour.
PM
I always have a bath in the evening – even in the summer. I use Susanne Kaufmann’s Bath For The Senses. The scent is beautiful and it’s such a lovely way to unwind at the end of the day. I’ll switch my phone to red light mode an hour or two before bed and occasionally pick up a book, although I’d like to read more.
For bodycare, I alternate between Susanne Kaufmann’s Bath For The Senses Body Butter and Irene Forte’s Pistachio Body Oil. Both leave my skin feeling really nourished. In the evening, I also return to Living Libations Best Skin Ever Seabuckthorn Oil. This time, I apply three pumps directly to dry skin and spend around five minutes massaging it in. I might also use this time for a little gua sha or a relaxing facial massage. I then remove the oil with a clean, warm, damp cotton pad.
After that, it’s time for my second cleanse. I take another warm, damp cotton pad, apply two pumps of the same oil and massage it into the skin. It leaves my skin feeling really clean without stripping it. The oil contains a rare blend of omega fatty acids – including omega-3, -6, -9 and omega-7 – which helps mimic the skin’s natural sebum production and protect against oxidative stress.
Once every two weeks, I use Seed To Skin’s Fermen'tonic. It’s a gentle exfoliator containing silver lactate and lactic acid, which also helps to hydrate and balance the microbiome.
A serum I love is the Living Libations CoQ10 Serum. CoQ10 naturally occurs in the skin but declines with age, so it helps support cellular energy and protects against oxidative stress. It also helps the skin stay supple and healthy. I finish with Adipeau’s Volume Cream, which I use at night as well as in the morning. When I keep my routine simple and combine it with regular massage, my skin rarely becomes dry, irritated, congested or tired. That’s why I always come back to the idea that less is more.
If my skin does need extra care, I use Mēditatif’s Stillness Mask. It contains prebiotic and postbiotic actives to support the microbiota – the community of live microorganisms that live on the skin – and maintain a calm, resilient complexion. It also has a cooling benefit thanks to the aloe vera but more than anything, it just leaves the skin feeling really cared for.
