The Facial Loved By The A-List

From LED facials to extraction, laser and peels, it’s no wonder we feel overwhelmed when booking in for a facial. But if you want one that works, turn to skincare guru Debbie Thomas – one of the most renowned skin specialists in both Harley Street and Hollywood, and many a supermodel's best-kept secret. We paid a visit to her recently launched D. Thomas Clinic to see what all the hype was about.

Tell us more...

The brainchild of award-winning, internationally renowned celebrity facialist Debbie Thomas is the hottest arrival on London’s skincare scene. Tucked away on Chelsea’s Walton Street, the D.Thomas Clinic is the destination for all things skin – treatments use cutting-edge equipment fused with a variety of holistic massage techniques alongside cosmeceutical brands to positively transform your skin in just one session. If you need further convincing, the likes of Naomie Harris, Poppy Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn and Arizona Muse are all regulars.

What to expect?

We booked in for the Grade 1 DNA Essential Skin Treatment, the clinic’s original bespoke facial that typically includes up to five tried-and-tested skincare techniques – think mild peels, hydra-dermabrasion, photo-dynamic light therapy, lymphatic drainage and laser therapy. After a thorough consultation with our therapist, our rosacea-ridden skin was subjected to a deep cleanse, mask, massage and blue LED light session followed by a final burst of laser to target broken capillaries and reduce redness. We visited the clinic on a Friday evening and were dreaming about a plush bed and dark room and were slightly disappointed in the clinical nature of the treatment rooms but felt immediately at ease with our therapist, and judging by the glow of our skin post-facial, it’s clear there’s more to a treatment than padded slippers and aromatherapy oils.

What makes it different?

The bespoke element of these facials really is one of a kind and the therapists are second-to-none (there are only eight on the team, including Debbie herself), making this personalised skincare treatment invaluable. Top skincare brands including SkinCeuticals regularly seek Debbie’s advice when formulating new products so rest assured you’re in expert hands.

What else is on offer?

Whatever your skincare woe, the Debbie Thomas team has you covered. The classic DNA facial we tried comes in two further tiers (Debbie describes this as the “powerhouse” treatment) but there are also treatments specifically for teenage skin and eye rejuvenation alongside laser lip plumping, hair removal, micro-needling, body contouring and pretty much every kind of peel you could ever imagine. Renowned aesthetic doctor Dr Sarah Tonks also holds residence, offering a variety of injectables and doctor-led clinical solutions for skin health. If you’re looking for results-driven facials that really do what they say – get booking.

The bottom line?

If you’re struggling to get to the bottom of what’s making your skin misbehave, book in now. The experts at the clinic combine their passion for cutting-edge tech with wisdom – in our case, we were prescribed aftercare based on both, with advice to avoid typical rosacea triggers (spicy food, caffeine, extreme temperatures) and to start using an azelaic acid toner and consider a course of IPL. We left feeling more informed on how to take better care of our skin, namely to swap oils, including oil cleansers, for salicylic acid-based products. Interestingly, many products recommended to us were also suitable for acne sufferers, we haven’t had a breakout for eons but it just goes to show – do you really know your skin? In a saturated skincare market, it pays to know what you’re putting on your skin, so an hour’s session with Debbie (if you can only stretch to 25 minutes it’s better than nothing) is worth its weight in gold. And just for the record, two weeks on, our redness is still at bay – Debbie really is a miracle worker.

A single 25-minute treatment with a Senior Expert costs £95 (£160 with Debbie) while prices for a 55-minute treatment start from £180. For more information or to book a treatment, visit DThomas.com
