HOTELS

OKU IBIZA

OKU Ibiza is back for its second season. With a relaxed, rustic vibe, this hotel has the feel of a Six Senses property – but at a more accessible price. Offering understated five-star luxury in a beautiful location, it’s just a few minutes’ walk from beautiful Cala Gració Bay. Accommodation includes rooftop suites with sea views, rooms with swim-up pools and a private four-bedroom villa – perfect for anyone heading to the island with friends. The group – which also has a hotel on Kos – offers an alternative way to experience island life, encouraging guests to disconnect and focus on themselves. Healing rituals include gong baths, reiki sessions and crystal healings. Best of all, the OKU Spa is the first European outpost to offer OTO CBD signature massages and facials, and its OKU Retreats series is a selection of wellness breaks hosted by some of the best-known names in the fitness and wellness world.

THE STANDARD

The Standard has finally landed in Ibiza. Fronting the Vara de Rey plaza in Old Town, the hotel is set in a stark white building that forms the backdrop for the bright, eclectic décor and landscaping throughout the property. The design celebrates the 1960s energy that originally attracted so many to Ibiza. A street-level restaurant spills onto the plaza during the day, before transforming into a nightlife hub after hours. The Standard also has a separate building – Casa Privada – available for groups. With its own private pool, bar, gym, lounge and 14 bedrooms, the hideaway is just a block away from all the amenities of the hotel, but with the privacy of a villa, including two suites with outdoor terraces and tubs.

GRAND PARADISO

A deluxe, suites-only addition to Paradiso Art Hotel, Grand Paradiso is set to open in August. In San Antonio Bay, the hotel’s selling point is its faithfully recreated 1950s Americana style, which is awash in Instagram-ready pastel colours. A first for the island, the theme incorporates art-deco touches, jukeboxes in the lobby, a 50s-style cinema and a jacuzzi inside a Cadillac Eldorado: the ‘Caduzzi’. Film is a huge inspiration here – suites are called ‘Almódovar’, ‘David Lynch’ and ‘Wes Anderson’ – and there will be an art gallery in the hotel that celebrates works by audio-visual artists. In the huge pool area, there will be a DJ booth in the shape of a classic Miami beach hut, complete with a backstage space for 20 guests.

TRS IBIZA

Opening in mid-May, TRS Ibiza Hotel will be the only five-star, all-inclusive property on the island exclusively designed for adults. Located on the west coast, the hotel’s sky lounge – complete with infinity pool – is set to become a hotspot for watching those famous San Antonio sunsets, all accompanied by live music. Three restaurants will offer a mix of international and local dishes, and a personalised butler service for every guest will allow for a truly stress-free stay.

NATIVO HOTEL IBIZA

Four-star Nativo Hotel Ibiza opened late last summer – and it’s the place to book if you’re looking for something fun, relaxed and a little bit boho. The property is in Siesta, a tranquil residential area of Santa Eulalia del Río, on the northern coast of Ibiza. Close to the beach, there are also three pool areas – we like the look of the adults-only one, which is on the rooftop next to a restaurant and cocktail bar. The two ground-floor pools are enclosed by natural sand zones so guests can walk bare-foot, alongside palm trees, sunbeds and hammocks. When it comes to accommodation, we like the look of the rattan-swathed swim-up pool suite.

GRAN HOTEL MONTESOL

This boutique hotel originally opened in 1933. Now, it’s been taken over by Experimental Group, which already has the island’s ever-popular Experimental Beach Ibiza at Playa des Codolar Salinas. The team has spent the last few months renovating the hotel’s 33 bedrooms and restaurant and lounge bar Sabbaba Montesol, which brings together the flavours of Jerusalem and Spain. Following the transformation by French designer Dorothée Meilichzon, the restaurant has spaces indoors, on a large terrace and on a striking rooftop overlooking Ibiza Old Town and the port.

FOOD & DRINK

ZUMA

Co-founded and created by Rainer Becker in London, Zuma is bringing its award-winning contemporary Japanese cuisine to the Balearics for a limited pop-up. On the rooftop of the Ibiza Gran Hotel, the Zuma sushi bar and open kitchen will take centre stage, with chefs cooking up signature dishes such as spicy beef tenderloin with sesame; black cod marinated in miso; tiger prawns with yuzu; and grilled seabass with chilli and ginger. Part of the restaurant will be a dedicated drinking space with a resident DJ, where guests will be able to soak up atmosphere throughout the summer.

LA GAIA

Ibiza Gran Hotel has launched a series of foodie events to celebrate winning a Michelin star at the start of 2022. Headed up by Óscar Molina, La Gaia’s win means Ibiza Gran Hotel can now claim to be the only hotel on the island to achieve the accolade. Molina’s celebratory series will vary from high-end, full-day experiences to offering guests the chance to try a selection of new recipes and guest favourites across his two tasting menus. Guests will also be invited to book into a new cooking class, ‘Flavours of Ibiza with Chef Molina’, where Molina will focus on cooking with local produce and the farm-to-table ingredients used at La Gaia.

HASALON AT SIX SENSES IBIZA

Hotel levels on Ibiza have gone through the roof in recent years thanks to the arrivals of Nobu and Six Senses. Last July marked the opening of the latter, a year-round destination set in the seclusion of Xarraca Bay. The restaurant’s flagship restaurant is HaSalon, run by Israeli Master Chef judge Eyal Shani, who returns for summer 2022 to recreate his outdoor farm-to-fork dining experience. For Shani, it’s all about sustainability: expect to sample everything from eggs laid by the hotel’s own chickens to locally caught seafood and Ibizan-influenced mezze platters.

SPACE

Much-loved nightclub Space closed its doors in 2016 but a new Space Ibiza club night, bar and restaurant is set to return later this summer. The comeback was confirmed by owner Pepe Roselló last year. The plans include a music-themed restaurant and bar Space Sun Beach, on San Antonio's Sunset Strip inside the Posta del Sol Building, and music will pay tribute to José Padilla, the legendary Ibiza DJ who recently died aged 64. Roselló has also said there are plans for a new series of club events under the ‘Sundays at Space’ moniker.
