The Rhythm Section
Blake Lively as you’ve never seen her before. Set in Ireland, The Rhythm Section follows Stephanie Patrick (Lively), a woman seeking revenge by exposing the truth about those who orchestrated a plane crash that killed her family. Patrick was also meant to be on the flight, and once she discovers the crash wasn’t a terrible accident, she assumes the identity of an assassin to track down those responsible.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood
Lloyd Vogel is an investigative journalist who receives an assignment to profile Fred Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers (played by Tom Hanks, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance). He approaches the interview with scepticism, as he finds it hard to believe that anyone can have such a good nature. But Roger's empathy, kindness and decency soon chips away at Vogel's jaded outlook on life, forcing the reporter to reconcile his own painful past.

Parasite
Bong Joon Ho is the man behind this pitch-black modern fairytale. Set in his native South Korea, the film focuses on the Park family – the picture of aspirational wealth – and the Kim family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks, and soon a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. So, when a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the two dynasties.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by DC Comic character Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

This Jane Austen adaptation follows the antics of a young woman, Emma Woodhouse (Anya Taylor-Joy), who lives in Georgian and Regency-era England and occupies herself with matchmaking – in sometimes misguided, often meddlesome fashion – in the lives of her friends and family. Also stars Johnny Flynn, Callum Turner and Josh O’Connor.

This year’s big Disney live-action reboot is Mulan. Continuing the streak of brilliant female superheroes in 2020, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is back – and this time, it’s the 80s. Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and finds a formidable foe in the form of the Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Chris Pine is also back, despite his untimely demise in the last film. We love the trailer for the 80s electro soundtrack alone.

In adventure-comedy Free Guy, a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way before it’s too late. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery and Taika Waititi.

Tenet
Directed by Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight), this under-wraps film stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Kenneth Branagh. All we know is that it’s set to be an action epic revolving around international espionage, time travel and evolution. We can’t wait.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter return to play the eponymous pair, 31 years after the original. In this third instalment, a visitor from the future tells best friends Bill and Ted that one of their songs can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.

Death On The Nile
Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as famous sleuth Hercule Poirot in this reboot of Death on the Nile. This time, the Belgian detective has a set of murder suspects on a boat after a rich heiress is killed. Will he be able to find the culprit before they reach port? Also stars Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot, Annette Benning, Dawn French and Russell Brand.

Dune
In Denis Villeneuve’s (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) forthcoming remake of the masterful 1984 original – starring Kyle MacLachlan – Paul Atreides leads a series of nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Details of the reboot’s plot are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Timothée Chalamet will star, supported by an all-star cast including Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgard.

West Side Story
West Side Story is Steven Spielberg’s 2020 take on the classic tale of two teenagers from different backgrounds who fall in love in 1950s New York City. The film stars Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler as the ill-fated Tony and Maria. We’re just hoping it doesn’t end up as 2020’s answer to Cats.
