How SheerLuxe Celebrated Black History Month

For Black History Month, SheerLuxe’s senior broadcaster and editor Nana Acheampong brought our Black Female Forum (BFF) community together for two special events: Jill Scott live at the Royal Albert Hall, followed by a panel discussion and brunch at Soho House. Launched in June, the BFF was created to help us connect more directly with our Black female audience, creating opportunities to meet, share experiences and build meaningful connections. Both events were a chance to celebrate Black History Month, spend time with existing members and welcome more women into the community. Here, Nana takes us behind the scenes…

The Live Event

First, we headed to the Royal Albert Hall with ten members of the BFF community to watch three-time Grammy Award winner Jill Scott perform live. Hosted in a private box filled with delicious food and drink – think champagne, katsu chicken sliders and mini fish and chips – it was such a special way to spend the evening together. We were so close to the stage, which made the performance feel even more intimate – the perfect way to kick off our Black History Month celebrations.

An intimate night with Jill Scott was the perfect way to kick off our Black History Month celebrations.

The Panel & Brunch

At 180 House, Soho House, SheerLuxe led a lively panel discussion on business, finance and side hustles, bringing together three inspiring voices: celebrity make-up artist and founder of luxury hair brand Enoléh Bernicia Boateng; OG influencer and founder of The Break Patricia Bright; and award-winning financial educator Fisayo Martins. Drawing on their own experiences, each panellist shared how they built their careers and offered practical advice to find success on your own terms.

Afterwards, guests had time to network and exchange ideas with like-minded women over brunch. The spread included pancakes, pastries, muffins, fresh fruit, yoghurt and granola, with tea and coffee flowing throughout. To round off the event, each guest left with a goody bag filled with products from Black-owned beauty brands like Fenty Hair, Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty, Cécred and Charlotte Mensah. The goody bags also gave members of the BFF community the opportunity to showcase their own businesses and products. Contributions came from diversity specialist Sanchia Alasia, while the bag pouches were gifted by ODARA and there was a special discount offer from Nia Mae London.

At the panel, three inspiring women shared practical advice on building a career and finding success on your own terms.
