The Last Of Us, NOW

One of the most anticipated TV returns of the year, The Last of Us is back – and this season is set to be even darker than the last. Joel (Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian, Narcos) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey, Game Of Thrones, His Dark Materials) continue their journey through a brutal, post-apocalyptic America, facing new threats and emotional challenges. With Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Unbelievable) joining the cast as Abby, expect heart-wrenching performances and cinematic storytelling at its best.

WEDNESDAY

The Diamond Heist, Netflix

This has all the hallmarks of a classic British caper: a gang of cocky London rogues, a dazzling prize and executive producer Guy Ritchie at its helm. This slick new documentary series revisits the 2000 attempt to steal the 203-carat Millennium Star diamond from the former Millennium Dome – and somehow, it all still feels gloriously absurd. The would-be thieves – every bit the caricature of wide-boy charm – reflect on their near-miss with cheeky bravado. Meanwhile, the Flying Squad officers who thwarted them revel in their own moment of heroism.

Government Cheese, Apple TV+

David Oyelowo (SelmaLawmen: Bass Reeves) stars as Hampton Chambers, a tenacious dreamer with big ideas – and even bigger debts. Released from prison with a self-sharpening drill he’s convinced will change the world, he returns to his San Fernando Valley home to find his family less than thrilled by his reappearance. Set in 1969 America, this surreal dramedy weaves fable-like storytelling with dark humour and a striking backdrop. Balancing eccentricity with emotional depth, it’s an ambitious tale about family, reinvention and the often-blurry line between genius and delusion.

The Stolen Girl, Disney+

This new five-part psychological thriller will have you hooked. Elisa Blix (Denise Gough, Andor) is a private jet air hostess juggling a high-flying job and family life. When she lets her nine-year-old daughter Lucia go on an impromptu sleepover with her new friend Josephine, things quickly spiral. The next day, the house is empty – and Lucia has vanished. Holliday Grainger (The Capture) stars as the too-good-to-be-true mum Rebecca, with Jim Sturgess (One Day) and Ambika Mod (This Is Going To Hurt) rounding out a strong cast.

From Alex Garland (Ex Machina) and former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza comes this unflinching, boots-on-the-ground war drama. Set during the 2006 Battle of Ramadi, Warfare follows a platoon of elite soldiers as they fight their way through a brutal mission in Iraq. Sinners

Michael B. Jordan (Creed) takes on dual roles in this haunting Southern gothic from director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther). Set in 1930s Mississippi, Sinners follows twin brothers returning home to escape their past – only to be caught in the grip of something darker. The story draws loose inspiration from the legend of bluesman Robert Johnson, who supposedly sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in return for fame. With strong turns from Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), this is a chilling supernatural tale steeped in folklore, faith and family secrets – moody, stylish and seriously gripping.
