THURSDAY

Secret Lives Of Orangutans, Netflix

It's been nearly a year since the last instalment of everyone’s favourite animal documentary, Planet Earth. While we wait, David Attenborough has narrated a special one-off documentary about orangutans. Following a group of them in the jungles of Sumatra – one of the species’ last outposts in the wild – it focuses on eight-year-old Ellie, mum to Emen and Eden. A touching and, at times, all too familiar portrayal of interpersonal relationships between a family.

FRIDAY

We can’t get enough of dating shows and this new series is even more scandalous. Ten singles looking for love bare all on a tropical island with a – fully-clothed – Rylan Clark hosting. Expect plenty of toe-curling moments.

Pachinko, Apple TV

Epic historical drama Pachinko is back for a second season. In the same time-line jumping narrative as the first, we rejoin multiple generations of the same family. Young Sunja is struggling in wartime Osaka as the Americans dig their claws in, while in Tokyo in 1989, Solomon scrambles to find investors for his new enterprise and grapples with taking up a dubious offer. The familiar cast returns, including Kim Ha-min, Lee Min-ho, Youn Yuh-jung, as well as Anna Sawai, who recently won an Emmy for the hit series Shōgun.

Blink Twice

If you’re into psychological thrillers, Blink Twice is this summer’s sharpest release. A tech billionaire, played by Channing Tatum, invites a cocktail waitress called Frida (Naomi Ackie) to his private island. On the surface it is raucous, hedonistic and all about excess and fun, but Frida becomes unsettled when strange goings-on start to occur – will she make it off the island?
