TUESDAY

Joe Lycett’s United States Of Birmingham, Sky Max

Joe Lycett is on a mission to visit all 18 Birminghams across the US and Canada, armed with an internationally recognised friendship agreement he wants each town to sign. His goal? To put the real Birmingham – his beloved Brummie hometown – back on the global map. With the lord mayor’s blessing, Joe kicks things off in Pemberton Township, New Jersey, home to a defunct chemical plant, a post office and not much else since the only hotel burned down a century ago. Will they sign? Will the dream live on? There’s an International Day of Birmingham party waiting at the end…

Who Do You Think You Are?, BBC One

Hollywood star Andrew Garfield is the latest celeb to investigate his roots, and it’s a powerful episode. He traces his Jewish ancestry to 1930s Poland, discovering his family’s links to the Kielce ghetto and to pianist Władysław Szpilman – best known as the subject of The Pianist. A stop at the Getty Museum in LA brings an emotional twist, as a piece of recovered art leaves him in tears.

Andor, Disney+

If you are a fan of the Star Wars universe, you might already know how Cassian Andor’s story ends (Rogue One), but this slow-burn prequel has become a fan favourite for a reason. Gritty, grounded and refreshingly grown-up, Andor charts the rebel’s path from cynic to resistance hero. Diego Luna returns in the title role, joined by Genevieve O’Reilly and Adria Arjona, in a series that’s as politically sharp as it is visually slick.

Race Across The World, BBC One

Back for its fifth series, Race Across the World sees five pairs attempt to travel from the Great Wall of China to India’s southern tip – all without phones, cards or much cash. This time, the casting is spot on – from Welsh duo Fin and Sioned, who’ve barely travelled outside of Wales, to retiree Melvyn, whose brother Brian warns he can’t be trusted with money. From early struggles leaving Beijing to emotional bonding over budget noodles, it’s as tense, uplifting and totally addictive as ever.

You, Netflix

THURSDAY

You

Netflix’s hit thriller is back for its fifth and final season. After leaving a trail of destruction across continents, Joe is back where it all began – New York – and it’s clear he can’t outrun his past forever. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but expect the same eerie narration, psychological mind games and morally murky twists that made this one of the platform’s most addictive series. Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl) once again leads the cast, with some familiar faces rumoured to return for Joe’s swan song.

FRIDAY

Julie Keeps Quiet

This atmospheric debut from Belgian director Leonardo van Dijl follows a young tennis prodigy navigating the fallout of a scandal at her elite training centre. When her former coach is suspended, Julie keeps silent – but the tension builds as pressure mounts both on and off the court. The film premiered to acclaim at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and has since been praised for its sparse dialogue and powerful lead performance from newcomer Tessa Van den Broeck. Minimalist and affecting, it’s one of the most compelling European debuts of the year.
