The Underdog: Josh Must Win, E4

From Love Island to Married At First Sight, reality shows have reigned supreme for the last few years but it’s due for a shake-up. Hoax reality show The Underdog: Josh Must Win aims to revolutionise the genre by placing an ordinary-looking guy amid the typical cast of gym-buffed contestants. While the others believe they're participating in a popularity contest called The Favourite – Josh, a 23-year-old nerdy guy from Bournemouth who lives with his parents is quietly being steered to victory by a panel of four celebrities covertly controlling events from the neighbouring house.

Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story, ITV 1

This is the final part of ITV’s documentary on Kate Garraway's husband, Derek, who lost his health battler year after developing a host of complications from Covid during the pandemic. In this instalment, viewers are granted intimate access to the last few years of Derek’s life and the struggles faced by individuals living with long-term illness – plus, the effect it has on the people that care for them.

Mothers’ Instinct 

This new psychological thriller stars two big Hollywood hitters – Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. Having previously worked together on Interstellar and Armageddon Time, the two are now teaming up again on this adaptation of a Barbara Abel novel that delves into the deep friendship between two women in the 1960s, who are forever altered by a significant accident. Think The Stepford Wives meets Hitchcock.

Derry Girls’ Nicola Coughlan and It’s A Sins Lydia West star in this new Channel 4 comedy. The six-part series explores the female friendships of Maggie and Eddie, whose 20s are now in the rear-view mirror. With their careers hanging by a thread and questionable romantic partners in the background, Maggie’s bipolar disorder rears its head again, leaving the two wondering whether their friendship will survive.

Greys Anatomy, Season 20, Disney

Grey's Anatomy premieres tonight in the UK on Disney+, beginning a milestone 20th season of the long-running medical drama. Ellen Pompeo reprises her role as Meredith Grey, though she takes more of a backseat as a producer this season, too. Regular viewers will know season 19 finished a cliff-hanger, with Dr Teddy Altman’s health in jeopardy.

The Beautiful Game, Netflix

Bill Nighy takes the lead role in this new sports drama focusing on the Homeless World Cup (HWC), a real-life soccer tournament involving unhoused athletes from around the world. Produced by HWC ambassador Colin Farrell, this new Netflix film follows the journey of the English team and their coach as they gear up for the international competition.

Another Derry Girls alum, Louisa Harland, stars in this action-packed fantasy from Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack). The series revolves around a young woman, Nell, who discovers she's been framed for murder, forcing her to become the most notorious highwaywoman in 18th-century England. Co-stars include Joely Richardson, Nick Mohammed and Adrian Lester, while Ényì Okoronkwo portrays a slave turned whistle-blower.

Poor Things, Disney+

Now available on Disney+, you can watch the absurdist drama that earned Emma Stone her second Oscar. From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, The Lobster) comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. The costume design, set and cinematography work together to create a Dali-esque, surrealist and visually stunning world for viewers to disappear into.

Passenger, ITV

Over the long weekend, catch up on ITV’s new dark comedy drama, turned thriller, turned paranormal horror. Wunmi Mosaku plays DC Riya Ajunwa, a police detective tasked with investigating a puzzling case in a secluded northern community. Penned by Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan, the show takes viewers on a whirlwind journey investigating the human and possibly beastly occurrences happening in this close-knit area. Quirky, weird and thrilling.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is behind this new BBC drama, which tells the story of an extended family and four young people who become involved with the grassroots scene of ska and two-tone music that came out of Coventry and Birmingham in the late 70s and early 80s. Offering a snapshot of the civil unrest and political landscape of the time, it also takes a deeper look at the burgeoning subculture. The star-studded cast includes Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Marcella’s Nicholas Pinnock and My Policeman’s David Dawson.
