Autumn Winter Pieces You Can Wear Now

You may still be in holiday mode but stores are teasing us with a sprinkling of autumn/winter’s key pieces. Here, we tell you how you can pull off these must-have buys before the change of season…

Ankle Boots

Ankle boots are probably the most transferable item on this list, easy to style whatever the weather. Our tip for making them work right now? Add feminine, floaty dresses a la Lucy Williams and Sincerely Jules. This look will carry you from day to night.

Top tip: Summer accessories like oversized sunnies and bright coloured nails will stop wintery details like ankle boots feeling too heavy.

Chunky cardigans are, thankfully, back again for AW19 – wear later in the year over polo-necks and denim, but use now as a layering piece on holiday. Great for travelling, they’re the useful throw-on when temperatures cool.

Top tip: Take inspiration from Jeanne Damas and throw off your shoulders for a nonchalant feel.

Grey Blazers

It may be a winter essential, but take a leaf out of Kaia Gerber’s book to make a blazer work now. Layer over slub tees and add chunky trainers for a summery approach.

Top tip: Wool blazers really will only work in cold temperatures, so look for blended fabrics for a year-round hero.

Leather Jackets

Without doubt a great layering hero. Soften the look by getting your legs out and wear over an all-white edit for an august-appropriate feel.

Top tip: Drape your jacket over your shoulder like the street style stars to avoid overheating.

Long Boots

Long boots have been, surprisingly, a bit of a summer hit. Whether you channel Anine Bing and add denim and a tee or take inspo from Aimee Song and pair with a floaty dress, they’re easy to style now – just avoid pairing black versions with dark colours until later in the season.

Top tip: Western boots are particularly on trend, so invest in a long pair for a look that feels relevant now.
